WWE.com recently surprised wrestling action figure fans by hosting a poll asking them to choose from four legendary WWE talents to be made into a Mattel WWE wrestling action figure. The talents, including Ric Flair, Razor Ramon, Goldberg and Mike Tyson came as no surprise to those fans.

Surprising, however, were the results of the poll after a week of being posted. Results showed Mike Tyson in the lead with 40%, ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair close behind with 35%, and Razor Ramon and Goldberg at the bottom of the poll with 15% and 10%, respectively. This shocked many fans on WWE.com, the Ringside Collectibles Facebook page and WrestlingFigs.com’s forums alike with most expecting Ric Flair and Razor Ramon to take hold of the poll, as they had in the beginning with a low vote count.

There isn’t a question that Mike Tyson’s involvement in the wrestling world wasn’t as impactful as it was short, but fans seem to agree that he isn’t the top choice for a wrestling action figure in the Mattel WWE line. This brought into question the validity of the poll and whether or not the results could have been altered or the votes changed by someone able to find an exploit.

Only adding to the confusion or at the very least the commentary on the issue was the response from the Mattel WWE Design Team. Posting on the WrestlingFigs.com forums, they had this to say:

“Right now nobody in that poll is under a WWE Mattel deal. While the results of the poll are of interest to us in that we can gauge interest in certain characters for the line, it does not guarantee that a winner, loser or second place finisher will be included down the road. There are a multitude of factors that still have to be considered before we consider going after talent who are not under WWE legends deals, above and beyond the results of this poll.”

This essentially raised more questions than it answered. Why would WWE.com post a poll with the Mattel WWE Flashback branding and not first discuss it with Mattel? And just what would factor into these four (controversial) names being considered for a figure by Mattel themselves?

Only time will tell, but for now, wrestling figure fans will no doubt continue to speculate.
