ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH
SIGNED FOR FIELD OF HONOR ‘16
Saturday, Aug. 27th - MCU Park - Brooklyn, NY
6pm
*This Article contains a TV Spoiler*
Ring of Honor continues the rich history of pro
wrestling events at ballparks when it brings FIELD OF HONOR ‘16 to MCU Park in
Brooklyn for the third year in a row on Aug. 27th.
Fans can expect a lineup of power hitters and plenty of
strikes and slams when the best wrestlers on the planet compete under the
stars.
ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness has just signed a huge
main event for the show:
ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – FOUR CORNER
SURVIVAL
ADAM COLE vs JAY LETHAL vs TETSUYA NAITO vs HIROSHI
TANAHASHI
With four highly decorated athletes such as new ROH
World Champion Adam Cole, former Champion Jay Lethal, Tetsuya Naito and Hiroshi
Tanahashi in the ring at the same time with the title at stake, this undoubtedly
is one of the biggest matches in ROH history.
The presence of the two New Japan Pro-Wrestling stars
adds huge international implications to the match, as former IWGP Heavyweight
Champions Naito and Tanahashi will each be vying to become just the second
Japanese wrestler to win the ROH World Title (Takeshi Morishima held the
championship for eight months in 2007).
This match will also mark another chapter in the fierce,
highly personal rivalry between Lethal and Bullet Club’s Cole that has been
raging for more than two months. Cole escalated the conflict when he and The
Young Bucks attacked Lethal and proceeded to humiliate him by cutting off his
signature braids and shaving his head at a recent national TV
taping.
ROH matchmaker Nigel McGuinness had earlier proclaimed
that Cole would never receive another world title shot as long as he is in
charge, but Lethal and the fans convinced McGuinness to reverse his decision at
Aftershock in Philadelphia on July 16th. At Death Before Dishonor, Adam Cole
defeated Jay Lethal to win the ROH World Championship for the second
time.
Jay Lethal will look to regain the championship he held
for over 420 days and get the revenge he seeks against Cole and now Tetsuya
Naito. During the most recent TV Taping in Las Vegas, Lethal enlisted the help
of Naito and Evil to join him for a Six Man tag team match against Adam Cole and
Bullet Club. But when Lethal needed Naito most, the leader of Los Ingobernables
de Japon left Lethal to fight on his own.
Winning major championships and competing on the big
stage are nothing new for Tanahashi and Naito.
Tanahashi has won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship a
record seven times and headlined NJPW’s annual Wrestle Kingdom show in the Tokyo
Dome a record eight times, winning six of the main events he has competed in at
the major show.
Naito won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from
Kazuchika Okada this past April and went on to hold it for two months before
losing it back to Okada.
The leader of the villainous Los Ingobernables de Japon
has proven time and again that he is as devious as he is talented, so he will
likely to stoop to any depths in the Four Corner Survival Match to put gold back
around his waist.
Regardless of who leaves Brooklyn with the championship,
this figures to be a match that fans will be talking about for years to
come.
