WWE House show results, 24 hours away from Roadblock
Hello everyone; just got back home from the Montreal WWE ‘’Live Event’’ at the Bell Center. Here are the results, some comments and a few pics;
They played the national anthem.
1-Enzo Amore & Big Kass (with Carmella) beat NXT tag-team champions Dawson & Wilder in a non-title match when Amore got the pin following the old rocket launcher. Half the crowd didn’t seem to know any of the wrestlers, but the match was real good and they quickly won the crowd over. Kass has improve a lot and showed tons of charisma in his comeback. Lots of NXT chants at various points.
2-Jack Swagger made Stardust tap to the ankle lock after 9:41. Crowd was divided here between the heel and the ‘’All American-American’’. Worst match of the night but still passable.
3-Goldust pinned Victor (with Connor) following a sunset flip after 6:35. Not much a match either. Goldust is still over with the Montréal fans. After the match Ascension double teamed Goldust until R-Truth made the save, and they did a double team move on Victor. Afterward both teased a handshake forever before doing some dance moves. Crowd was into it.
4-Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) defeated Luke Harper after 3:50 with a F-5. Before the match Wyatt took the mike to say he made a deal with the devil, Vince K McMahon and got them a handicap match. However, he never once got involved in the match and just stayed ringside. That was a fraud as the scheduled match was Lesnar vs Wyatt one on one. Still, it was quite an awesome sight seeing Lesnar live. Hayman did his usual introduction. Lots of suplexes as usual. After the match, Lesnar went after Wyatt but he ran to the back. Lesnar then went back to the ring to deliver one more F-5 to poor Luke Harper. Hard to rate, more of an attraction than a match at this point.
5-After a 20 minute intermission, it was time for all 3 championship matches. Charlotte (With Ric Flair) pinned Natalya Neidhart with her feet on the ropes at the 12:16 mark. Easily second best match of the entire card. Those 2 still have my vote for greatest American woman match ever for their NXT showdown last year. End came when Natalya clamped the sharpshooter, Flair climbed on the apron and got smacked in the face for his trouble. Charlotte then reversed the situation and used the ropes for leverage.
6-WWE tag-team champions The New Day (With Xavier Woods) won by DQ against Wade Barrett & Sheamus when Barrett used the trombone to break a pinfall attempt at 13:43. New Day were the babyfaces here, and got the crowd to sing ‘’we are the champions’’ before being interrupted by the Nation’s entrance music. Good back and forth match here, even though it was strange to see New Day acting as good guys. New Day did their finishing move on Barrett for good measure.
Pat Patterson was introduced to the crowd before the main event. He got a great pop. Pat talked about the last Raw in Montreal and thanked the fans for the support he received for his appreciation night. He then said he wanted to be here live in case the InterContinental title changed hand. He then gave the house mike back to Jojo, saying ‘’Es-tu belle elle, hein ?’’ (she’s beautiful, isn’t she ?’’)
7-Kevin Owens retained the IC title by pinning Sammy Zayn in a triple threat match also involving Dean Ambrose. Nobody got booed in this one. Zayn came in wearing a Montreal Canadians hockey jersey, and Owens wrestled with his custom made KO shirt with blue, white and red stripes he uses only in Montréal.
Some ‘’This is awesome’’ chants when Zayn did a plancha on both opponents outside, as well as when they all knocked down each others with hard clotheslines and superkicks. At one point, Zayn did an insane taz-like suplex to Owens who fell hard on his head. The end came when Owens did a swanton on Ambrose, who was in process of pinning Zayn, so he crushed both under his weight, and covered Sammy for the win after 14:41 of an action packed bout. Easily the best match of the night.
After the match, Ambrose put Zayn (and even Owens) over, saying how they came from nothing and worked their way up the ladder until main-eventing the Bell center. He said that man (pointing to Sammy Zayn) should inspire all of us. Zayn then said even though Ambrose may be crazy, that this was a great speech. He said he his looking forward to beat Owens for the IC belt ‘’Maybe at Wrestlemania’’ to a huge pop. He concluded by thanking the fans, saying main eventing the Bell Center was a dream come true.
I would estimate the crowd as 8000 more or less. This was an OK show, mostly saved by the main event. It’s really too bad Owens and Zayn have to work the WWE style, because anyone who know them and saw any of their ROH matches, for example, know they could REALLY have torn the house down.
I still had a great time, as going to wrestling with my son and my old wrestling buddies is priceless.
Thanks for reading and see you soon !
Frank
