Hi I finally get to write a report I have been hoping to do for years. I went to the Steve Austin signing at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburgh, PA thanks to the listing on wrestlingfigs.com.
Once I saw it I knew I had to plan a day off from work and go since I missed his dvd signing a couple years ago in NY. I was hoping to get there by 10 am since I figured it would draw a huge crowd since it was a free signing with only a $13 admission for the show itself.
It ended up taking me almost a 4 hour drive to get there I got slowed down with the snow in the early morning and arrived in the building a little before 12pm which was the scheduled start time for Austin. A friend of mine got there on line by 10:30am and was texting back and forth for updates so I wasn’t wasting my drive. I was on line and it was a very huge line snaking back and forth only a few minutes after scheduled start time of 12pm and my friend who was near the front texted me saying they were already cutting off the first signing session so now I was on line for the second signing of 4pm-6pm.
A few minutes later around 12:40pm they started stamping people’s hands for the second signing to guarantee your spot in around 1pm they stopped giving out stamps and stopped letting people on line for the second signing. I was near the back and watched so many angry and unhappy people being turned away by guards and police they all kept coming in thinking they were early for the 4pm signing when it was stopped already at 1pm, they did say first come first serve.
Around 3pm one guy came in and started freaking out they weren’t letting him in and even came up to me and begged to take my spot for a trade of his figures I was little annoyed security didn’t take him away after bothering me my back was already hurting from being in driving position for 4 hours then standing in line for about another 3 hours now. They decided to extend the first signing session to about 3:30pm to flush out as many people on line, they originally was going from 12-2 and Austin takes 2 hour break. He ended up only taking about a 30 minute break and proceeded with the 4pm signing on the dot and I was on that line for the second session which only had about 40 people left and there was only about 11 people behind me so I just made it.
The only good thing about standing on line for 4 hours was since the second session had a smaller group they stopped the 1 item only signed limit and were now allowing multiple items signed 1 guy got 3 wrestling replica belts and a magazine signed Austin even took multiple photos now instead of the big rush in the first session 1 guy even decided to do a video instead of a photo and got one with Austin cutting a promo with that guy. Luckily I decided to bring 2 figures just in case, one guy behind me begged to make a trade for my 2 figures for his 1 multi pack Austin set which was an older one I already had and wasn’t even worth the value of my 2 figures I ended up getting my Classics Superstars and first appearance figure bone crunching figure signed since I wanted to have something old school.
When I got up to Austin I told him how much he was missed in the ring and he thanked me for that started saying What when he saw my What shirt. I got some good photos with Austin one serious pose and one with him laughing even took his photo as he walked out for a break when I gave him a high five. I finally got to see Austin around 4:30pm and rushed out there as soon as possible I did not want to stay for the ugliness of the about 50+ people who got turned away from the signing and decided to stick around waiting for Austin blocking the exit not sure if they accommodated them or not one security handler was adamant they were not letting them in. After the 8 hour ordeal to see him it was worth it, would I do it again?…..Hell Yeah
