-DGUSA Champion Ricochet and Uhaa Nation are best friends, but their Title Match in Brooklyn is sure to be very competitive. They had a bout in Japan earlier this year that many called a match of the year candidate. Now the rematch is coming to live iPPV at WWNLive.com.
-The Colony feel angry and disrespected by DGUSA Tag Team Champions The Bravado Brothers after the Bravados used Green Ant's mask to lead to a victory last May. The rematch will take place this Saturday in Queens.
-Drew Gulak vs. Johnny Gargano is a marquee match up on paper, but these two both have a lot at stake. They find themselves respectively #9 and #10 in the ratings so this bout is about getting out of the cellar.
-Roderick Strong is very excited to be in two first time ever matches this weekend against top opponents. Strong has proven to be the benchmark on the independents for the last decade. It'll be interesting to see how Galloway, who is new to the US indies, does against him in Brooklyn. We can expect Strong vs. Nation to be a battle in Queens.
-Zack Sabre Jr. is one of the best pure, technical wrestlers in the world. He has already become a top name in Japan and Europe. He just stole the shows at PWG BOLA. Now, he is looking to establish himself as a top contender in EVOLVE as he finally returns to the New York. Sabre. Jr. will face two of the best when he wrestles the Style Battle Champion Timothy Thatcher and Style Battle runner up Biff Busick this weekend.
-The Premier Athlete Brand of Anthony Nese, Caleb Konley, Su Yung and Mr. A are making a lot of enemies. The last EVOLVE show ended with an altercation with Johnny Gargano and Rich Swann. It'll be interesting to see what the follow up is this weekend.
-Keep an eye on Tracy Williams this Sunday. A relative unknown talent, it is no coincidence that Williams is booked against Style Battle Champion Timothy Thatcher in his debut. EVOLVE officials have high hopes for this talented newcomer.
-AR Fox will have an interview in Queens to discuss his future as he recovers from a wrist injury. Remember, Fox can still book himself in any match he wants after winning that right last May. Fox will reveal that match in Queens.
-EVOLVE co-founder Gabe Sapolsky had this to say about NXT after their special last night: "History does repeat itself. I remember when ECW was shunned and ignored in the early days. Then suddenly we saw WWE and WCW embracing the principles and soon the ECW wrestlers. This ignited the biggest boom in the history of US wrestling. Yesterday, we saw some things that lit the Internet on fire because they are new and we didn't expect them. The biggest was HHH posing for a selfie with Kevin Steen, Hideo Itami and Fergal Devitt and then giving huge endorsements to Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville by tweeting that he would like to wrestle them. Kalisto as well as Zayn and Neville brought new excitement to NXT Takeover that had fans tweeting their support. This doesn't even include the impact that Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are making on the main roster. WWE has even included me on the The Shield documentary and Paul Heyman DVD. So what's my point? A few years ago, none of this would have happened because the talents from the independents weren't considered "major league." WWE has obviously changed it's thought process and we are hopefully at the dawn of a new era. Will it lead to a boom like in the 90s? I don't know, but I do know that it will lead to new stars and and some fresh wrestling (or sports entertainment in the WWE Universe). The most important thing is that these innovative, cutting edge talents capture the imagination of new, young fans. Given the stage WWE is providing, they can. I'm really proud to have had the opportunity to work with many of the talents I just mentioned. I am thrilled to be able to work with today's new stars right now.
