Just got back from Carson's Pro Wrestling World in Allentown, PA....
The Howard Finkel autograph signing from 12/14 was postponed until today, 12/21 due to last weekend's snowstorm.
"The Fink" arrived right on time - as I was browsing through some old magazines in Bud's Pro Wrestling Shop, I heard a very familiar (deep) voice say "Hello, I'm Howard Finkel!" I saw Bud giving Mr. Finkel a guided tour of the Pro Wrestling museum...... a few minutes later, Finkel sat down and begin the signing.
He was extremely pleasant! He thanked us for coming, and asked where we were from and if I'd like the autograph personalized.... which I said yes.
I told Howard that I'd been in some discussions about the commentators doing "selfies" last Monday on RAW, and the general thought was that it was disrespectful to the wrestlers in the ring - I reminded him of a RAW taping from Hershey, PA, in 2006, when I was sitting behind the great Howard Finkel himself - I asked him for an autograph, and he snapped back at me "NOT DURING THE MATCH!" while never once taking his eyes off the WWE ring..... I told Howard that he taught me an incredible lesson that night about being respectful to the wrestlers....
He apologized, and said he didn't mean to be forceful that night - that it was partly about being respectful to those in the ring - and that he also didn't want to miss his cues - if the match had ended, and he was too busy signing an autograph and missed it - he would have gotten in trouble.
So, with the air now cleared - we joked that I finally got my Howard Finkel autograph nearly 7 years later! It was a wonderful experience and I'd like to thank Bud Carson for brining Howard Finkel to meet the fans.
