Thanks to Roland Udert for this report & photos

Last night in Carteret, NJ the Radisson Hotel played host to some of the greats of the wrestling business as the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame held a dinner to honor Angelo Savoldi, who at 97 years of age is the oldest living professional wrestler.

The event was hosted by "Irish" Davey O'Hannon with plenty of help from his family and the assistance of John Pantozzi who does a lot of work to help out the PWHF which is in Amsterdam, NY and is the only physical building housing exhibits and memorabilia honoring the past of the great sport of professional wrestling.

Many superstars came out to honor Angelo Savoldi and share stories of his varied career that has spanned parts of 9 decades from the 1930's to today. Some of those in attendance were Tito Santana, Manny Soto, Doink The Clown Ray Apollo, Dick Woehrle, Billy Caputo, Dominic Denucci, Johnny Rodz, Pete Reeves, "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe, JJ Dillon and there was a run in by former WWF Champion Bob Backlund. It was a night to renew friendships and reminisce along with Angelo about the territory days and his influence on the sport.

Fans were offered the unique chance to rub elbows and get photos and autographs from their heroes. There was a raffle for various show posters and memorabilia as well as one for a trip to the 2012 Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame Induction Weekend that was one by someone sitting at my table (unfortunately not me). Angelo was presented with a clock and photo of him from his wrestling days as well as a flyer advertising one his matches.

The night ended with PWHF President and Director Tony Velano inviting all the wrestlers in the room to take a group photo at the head table with Angelo and took the time to thank everyone for coming out to support the hall and invite everyone to come to Amsterdam, NY to see it for themselves. Big thank you to Davey O'Hannon for pulling this together and I look forward to the next one!

Photos are of some of the attendees during the meet and greet portion of the evening, group photo of the wrestlers with Angelo Savoldi, the presentation of Angelo's award, Bob Backlund wishing Angelo well, and John Pantozzi and Davey O'Hannon going ove rthe program before the start of the event.
