Recently the WWE had an event at Nassau
Coliseum. Before the matches began, we
were backstage and saw many of the wrestlers come in to warm up and get ready for the night's competition. We met
two WWE superstars, Kofi Kingston and Kelly Kelly.
We were so impressed with both of them
because we didn't know what to expect! On
TV, Kofi comes across as a large, angry man!
We thought he was more like a giant, mushy teddy bear. We asked him many
questions about his family, training, charities and interests. He answered our
questions very thoughtfully.
He was patient and really took the time to
make us feel comfortable. He made an effort to answer each question we asked. He was extremely kind, caring and generous. He is not only a good wrestler, but we think he is an amazing role model for kids. We found out many interesting
things. He gives back to others, values
education and is generous with his fame and time. He is very involved in his work and helps in his own marketing. It was very
clear to us that he is a genuine down-to-earth guy. We will never forget our time with Kofi or ever look at him the same
again. Of course, we cheered for him when it was his time to wrestle!
After meeting Kofi, we waited for WWE diva
Kelly Kelly. She gave us some great advice.
She said, "Stay in school, get a college degree, listen to your parents and follow
your dreams. This was my dream [to wrestle], and I followed it, and here I am, six
years later."
We wanted to know what it was like to be a
WWE diva. Kelly said, "It is so much fun! We
get our makeup and hair done every day.
You just get to perform in front of millions
of fans every week, and it's so cool to see
girls like your age having Kelly Kelly signs
[saying], 'I want to be Kelly Kelly.' It's so cool."
Being a female wrestler is wilder than being
a male wrestler. Kelly explained, "Oh, my
gosh, it's even rougher! We get our hair
pulled, we get slapped, we get punched. OK,
it's not that fun to get hit in the face. I think
the girls are a lot rougher with each other
because we can be, because I guess we're
used to it. Getting your hair pulled and
[being] slapped, honestly, a thousand times,
you get used to it after a while. We are
definitely a lot rougher than the guys."
We wanted to know if she gets to go home a lot and if she is still close to her family.
Kelly lives in Florida and so do her parents.
She gets to see them four or five times a
year. And how do her family and friends
treat her? She said, "My family and friends
are the most supportive people ever.
They're like my No. 1 fans, and every week
they watch the show and always text me and say, 'Good job, good job.' My mom is [my] ultimate No. 1 fan. She comes to all the
shows. She's great."
Finally, we wanted to know how she takes
advantage of all her fame and fortune. Kelly
said, "That's a good one. I would have to say
probably going to amusement parks. We get kind of special treatments; we get on
the rides faster, and they move us to the
front of the line. So that's fun."
