I went to Northeast Wrestling Wrestlefest 15 last night at the Mid Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.  The Civic Center was almost sold out with over 2,000 fans to see top stars like Matt HArdy, MVP, Hurricane, Sgt. Slaughter, Sabu, and others.

Doors opened at 5pm for VIP ticket holders and 5:30 for everyone else.  Before the show there was a line to meet the wrestlers.  Wrestlers that were signing included Brian Anthony, Sgt Slaughter, Matt Hardy, MVP, Sabu, NEW Champion Matt Taven, Tommy Dreamer, Hurricane, and Jerry "The King" Lawler.  All the wrestlers had welcoming price for autographs and photo ops.  Most were $10, and Hardy and MVP were $20.  Hurricane had his WCW Cruiser weight belt for special photo-ops and Sabu had a few ECW Barely Legal programs.

Highspots had a table selling DVDs, autographs and other items.  People handed out fliers for K&S Wrestlefest next convention on April 9th (Luger, Heenan, and Molly nice).  Northeast Wrestling had there table with t-shirts, photos and DVDs.  The NOW, Hale and Vik, were at a local radio stations table.  Show started around 7:30 with Ring of Honor ring announcer Bobby Cruise a the nights announce.

Hurricane Shane Helms defeated Brian Anthony in a great opening match.  The fans were back and forth cheering for both wrestlers.  A same "Suger Shane" and 3 Count chant broke out, which cause Hurricane to dance a little.  A lot of high flying in this match and Hurricane won with a chokeslam.

Next was a 5 way ladder match with the winner facing NEW Champion Matt Taven later that night.  Brian McBride, Tomasso Campo, the NOW (Hale Collins & ViK Dillishus) and Sabu put their bodies on the line in this un-real match.  Sabu did his classic chair tossing and hit an Arabian Facebuster through a table.  Many spots with the ladders which broke one of the ladders.  Sabu went up the ladder but it broke under him.  Hale set-up a table and hit an elbow drop from top of a ladder onto McBride.  Hale then climbed the ladder and got the contract.

MVP came out and talked about how he quit WWE and was not released.  He continued to talk about his long feud with Matt Hardy and how their match at Wrestlefest was going be different from what they did in the past.  A "PG Suck" chant broke out and MVP agreed that PG does suck.

The Hardcore Knockout Roxxi (Nikki Rox) defeated Mia Yim with the Voodoo drop.  It was a good match that saw Yim try to get the upper hand but Nikki came back to get the win.

Sgt. Slaughter and Jeff Starr beat Romeo and Max Baurer after Starr hit a Swanton Bomb onto Max.  Romeo could not help out his partner because Sgt had him in the Cobra Clutch.  After the match Romeo told ringside fans that he did not lose, his partner did and he had to find Antonio, again.

During intermission staff set up the cage as star of Lucha Libre USA Reby Sky had out give away different mercy to fans that answered trivia and other questions.

After intermission was Jerry Lawler vs Tommy Dreamer in a Cage Match.  Lawler cut a promo talking about how fans ask him if wrestlers like each other.  He said there are people he never got along with (Terry Funk, Micheal Cole, Miz) and he top of the list was Tommy Dreamer.  Lawler said the fought all over and the cage match was going to be the last time they ever wrestle each other.  Both men hit the cage wall and at one point they left the cage and fought on the floor.  The each used different weapons.  Lawler got hit with a cane and feel into the corner and Dreamer went to finish him when Lawler tossed a fireball at him, then pinned Dreamer.  Staff rushed to get the cage down so they could get Dreamer checked out.

Hale Collins faced Matt Taven for the NEW Title.  Both a fan favorites but since Hale is from Poughkeepie the fans turned on Taven.  Taven went all out to take out Hale early.  Hale had his arm taped up because he hurt it when he hit the elbow drop, the elbow had a target on it.  Taven went right for the elbow.  At one point Hale went for a sidekick (Super Kick) and Taven ducked and Ref Hanson was knocked out.  Hale took out the champ and a second ref came out to count the 3.  Hale was given the belt but Hanson took it back and gave it Matt Taven because he DQed Hale for the kick.  

The NOW then went after ref Hanson and hit him with the Doomsday.

Matt Hardy faced MVP in the main event.  It was a mat classic.  Fans chanted for both men.  Each wrestler kicked out of the others finisher.  Matt went for a second Twist of Faith but MVP cover and pinned Hardy with a back-slide.

Matt Hardy took the mic and said it was great working with MVP and he hopes they meet again down the line because they both have different areas they are heading.  

Then Hardy stayed in the ring for in-ring photo ops with fans.

It was a great event.  Michael O'Brian and the entire Northeast Wrestling crew works to make their events surprise and take pride in their shows.
