ROH 5/8 IN NY : MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are two men with whom the ROH faithful are very familiar. From their two epic clashes against The Briscoes at “Good Times, Great Memories” and “Return Engagement” to their last Ring of Honor appearance at “Death Before Dishonor VI” in a match against Kevin Steen and El Generico, these two innovative athletes have always left fans with a lasting impression. So when it was announced they would be making their return to ROH on May 8th in New York City, the speculation immediately started as to who they would face in the Big Apple.
In the April 9th ROH Newswire (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/april-9th-newswire/), it was reported that the MCMG had formally issued a challenge for their ROH return. In the end, the MCMG’s challenge was simple: “We want to face the best tag team in Ring of Honor.” Alex Shelley told ROHWrestling.com, “We want to face the best, whoever that may be. We have proven ourselves in Ring of Honor in the past, and we are better now. We can beat ANY team in ROH, and we will prove it on May 8th in New York!”
As you can imagine, this didn’t sit well within the tag team division, as teams throughout ROH immediately piped up, and several match petitions were submitted with everyone wanting a piece of the Machine Guns. As ROH officials began filtering the challenge requests and had one team singled out, Shane Hagadorn made a phone call with a challenge of his own. As arrogant as ever following their victory over The Briscoes at “The Big Bang”, Hagadorn made it crystal clear that Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli want the match. “Of course we will fight the Machine Guns,” Claudio Castagnoli commented. “We are the World Champions, the best tag team in all professional wrestling, and we back down from no man! Those hillbilly Briscoes learned the hard way that kings reign supreme and now so will Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin!”
Hagadorn took it a step further. “The Machine Guns are a great team. But they’ve put their cards out for everyone to see, and we call their bluff. It won’t be the pitiful Briscoes for them this time, it’ll be better – better than they’ve ever faced. And we’ll prove ourselves to be royalty once more because we’ll put up the gold. We’re calling our shot now. We will beat the Machine Guns, and then there won’t be any team on Earth that can claim to be better.” With the champions’ intentions known, ROH officials backed off their original choice, and signed the bout. The Kings of Wrestling will face The Motor City Machine Guns with the ROH World Tag Team Championship at stake!
