Hulk Hogan, TNA get set to slam WWE, Raw
Friday, December 11th 2009, 4:00 AM
Last month the newly appointed marshal of TNA Town, Hulk Hogan, promised to shake things up and he's kept that promise. Last Saturday he announced a special three-hour live edition of "Impact!" for Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. on Spike TV.
To prove the marshal means business, he'll also make his TNA debut that night.
And it's no coincidence that the date is a Monday in a showdown with WWE's "Raw."
Said Hogan, "I knew when I signed with TNA, that it would be important to make a statement with the first episode. Going head-to-head on January 4 makes the statement loud and clear: Game on!"
For this showdown he has a posse of people to showcase such as Mick Foley, Kurt Angle and Sting. But don't be too surprised if he decides to add more deputies such as Brian Knobbs, Jimmy Hart and Ric Flair.
Now technically it's an "Impact!" program, but with Eric Bischoff on the TNA town council, the man who successfully battled the McMahon clan with WCW's Nitro, you can bet your badge he's ready to saddle up a new Monday night program to compete with "Raw."
To counter this move, rumors say "Raw" will go to three hours. And a hotter rumor is that they'll bring back one of their best gunslingers for the occasion - The Rock!
So the New Year will begin with a bang as fans pack their remotes and brace for the "Gunfight at the Cable Corral."
We are saddened to say former WWE IC champ Umaga (real name Eddie Fatu), 36, died of an apparent heart attack last Friday in a Houston hospital.
Saturday, 7:30 p.m., NWS with Tito Santana visits the American Legion Post 159 in Flemington, N.J. For info: (732) 888-1704.
I have the feeling of Monday Night Raw vs. WCW Nitro once again. Hogan has the fans buzzing once again. Hogan believes he can make TNA's ratings go to a 3.0 going head to head against WWE. I don't believe that will happen, but time will tell. Jeff Jarrett will be back, and it looks like his private life will be aired on TV. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
On December 14th Dennis Miller will be the Special Guest Host. It is a 3 hour show and will feature the 2009 Slammy Awards.
