Another candidate in the ring?

A story in the National Journal about the ever-growing GOP field running against U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd dropped a tantalizing tidbit: Linda E. McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment in Stamford, is contemplating a run.

The story by Erin McPike (subscription required) doesn't say much more than that.

But Chris Cillizza expands on a possible McMahon candidacy in this morning's The Fix: "A source close to McMahon said that she is "seriously considering" the race and touted her as a serious candidate based on a résumé that includes leading a $1 billion publicly traded company based in Stamford, Conn. The source also noted that McMahon would be willing and able to spend significant sums on the race, an x-factor that could make her competitive in a primary against former representative Rob Simmons, former ambassador Tom Foley and state Sen. Sam Caligiuri."

McMahon, of Greenwich, was in the news earlier this year, when Gov. M. Jodi Rell nominated her for a seat on the 11-member state Board of Education. Her term expires in Feb., 2011.

I have a call into McMahon (through WWE's media liason) and will report back later.
