National Wrestling Superstars made its annual return to the Lacey Township High School in Lanoka Harbor, NJ on Saturday night March 21st. While other wrestling promotions may be struggling to fill their venues, NWS has had no trouble finding wrestling crowds, and last Saturday night was certainly no exception. With final ticket counts still outstanding and being accounted for as of this press release, it appears that over 700 loud and energetic fans were on hand for this exciting event.
NWS Cruiserweight Champion J.D. Smoothie (with "advisor" Nicky Oceans) retained his title against Nikko The Monkey Man From Oz. The Monkey Man proved himself to be a serious challenge for the long-reigning champion, but the presence of Oceans at ringside was the deciding factor, as Nikko allowed himself to be distracted from a pinfall attempt by Oceans long enough for Smoothie to recover and hit a backwards piledriver on Nikko for the three-count.
Former WWE bad boy Salvatore Sincere came out to the ring, with former ECW brawler The Equalizer, Hasheem Ali, Ryan Blackheat, and King Nagumbo. Sal bragged that he and King Nagumbo would put former WWE star Rikishi and former ECW star The Blue Meanie into retirement. The Equalizer and Ryan Blackheart, who were scheduled to face each other in a Hardcore Tables Match later in the evening, almost came to blows right there, but Sal convinced them to remain focused on the team.
Nicky Oceans (with "advisor" J.D. Smoothie) defeated Mighty Mikey Pacifica. Commissioner Moore sent Smoothie back to the locker room before the match began, not wanting a repeat of the two-on-one that occured in the first match. Pacifica and Oceans, no strangers to each other over the past several months, tore into each other and gave no quarter. After hitting Oceans with a sternum-cracker and a flying body press, it appeared that Pacifica was poised for a victory, when Sal Sincere came out and conveniently distracted Commissioner Moore, allowing J.D. Smoothie to sneak back to ringside and hit Pacifica with a foreign object. Oceans then finished off the semi-conscious Pacifica with a Michinoku Driver and got the three-count. An enraged Commissioner Moore banned Sal from the building until his match later in the evening, and ordered Smoothie to report to his office Monday morning, with his title belt.
Former ECW brawler The Equalizer (with Hasheem Ali) defeated Ryan Blackheart (with King Nagumbo) in a Hardcore Tables Match. The two big men pounded on each other, and almost anything else that wasn't nailed down inside and outside the ring, including chairs and metal signs. Blackheart was the first to bring the table into the ring, and then tried to lay out Equalizer onto it and deliver a flying splash, but Equalizer was able to turn the tables on Blackheart (so to speak), caught him up on the top rope, and powerbombed him through the table for the victory. Blackheart seized the microphone and said that this was far from over, they would meet again.
Former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot defeated Hasheem Ali (with King Nagumbo). Ali and Nagumbo initially tried to double-team The Patriot, but he fought them off, and eventually the match settled down to a hard-hitting brawl between the two strongmen. Ali gave America's Hero all he could handle, but was unable to put him away. In frustration, Ali threw The Patriot right into referee Jimmy Storm, knocking him out temporarily. Ali then grabbed The Patriot and held him as KIng Nagumbo came into the ring to deliver a superkick, but The Patriot spun them around and it was Ali who received the superkick instead. Patriot then covered Ali and referee Storm regained consciousness and counted the 1-2-3. As Patriot was celebrating his victory, Ryan Blackheart ran into the ring and attacked the Patriot, along with King Nagumbo and Ali who made it a three-on-one. The Equalizer then came into the ring with a metal sign in hand, and things looked bleak for America's Hero... but Equalizer stunned everyone by attacking Blackheart and his cronies instead. Nicky Oceans and J.D. Smoothie also ran in from the back and attacked Equalizer, continuing the beatdown on him and The Patriot, until former WWE star Rikishi and former ECW star The Blue Meanie came thundering out to the ring, and cleared away the heel goons. Commissioner Moore announced that Hasheem Ali and Ryan Blackheart would be teaming up in Brick, NJ in May against The Patriot and The Equalizer (who both agreed to put their feud behind them), and that a match of that magnitude would have a special enforcer referee, none other than former WWE World Heavyweight Champion The Iron Sheik!
During intermission, the fans were treated to a Lacey High School "King Of The Ring" Arm Wrestling challenge between football MVP's Tommy Rickmeers and Justin Pandorf, which was won by Pandorf in a closely contested battle.
The fans were also treated to a most unusual match in the ring, as teachers from the Lacey Township schools and members of the local Rotary Club met in the ring for a Battle Royal, along with NWS' own "oddity" the giant Goal-Duh, who was brought in by the Rotarians as a last-minute substitute for a supposedly sick teammate. Another Rotarian Tony "The Godfather" Corporale attempted to sneak weapons into the ring and got caught. After nonstop mayhem in the ring, the fight came down to a pair of Lacey teachers, the six-foot-six 275-pound Tim "The Terminator" Christ staring down at the five-foot-five 140-pound Shaun "Supa-Fly" Banin. After being unable to physically knock the larger Terminator out of the ring, the Supa-Fly leaped on top of him, locked him in a sleeper hold, and eventually got him off his feet and through the ropes to claim victory.
In the first half of the double main event, former WWE star Rikishi & former ECW star The Blue Meanie defeated former WWE bad boy Sal Sincere & King Nagumbo. After Sal did his customary bad-mouthing of everyone in the ring, the NWS management, and everyone in the audience, the match finally got under way. Sal and Nagumbo initially double-teamed Blue Meanie, but Meanie was able to eventually tag in Rikishi, who cleaned house, and hit Nagumbo with a powerbomb and a butt-splash for the three count. Rikishi and Blue Meanie then planted simultaneous Stinkfaces on Nagumbo and Sal, to the delight of the crowd.
In the second half of the double main event, NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion (and Lacey Township native) Rhett "The Threat" Titus retained his title against challenger "Dangerous" Damian Adams. Adams, a former NWS title-holder himself, took the fight to Titus, but the champion battled back. After hitting a tremendous dropkick, Titus appeared poised for victory, when J.D. Smoothie & Nicky Oceans rain into the ring and tried to attack Titus, only to be tossed right back out again. Titus then hit his "Tidal Wave" legdrop finisher on Damian, followed by a flying splash, to get the three-count, sending his hometown fans home happy.
NWS returns to action next Friday night March 27th at Long Branch, NJ's Seashore Arena/Gym. NWS will then kick off April with a gigantic two-show two-promotion two-tournament weekend, as they team with Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) for the 2009 Women's J-Cup Tournament on Friday April 10th in Bergenfield, NJ, and the 2009 King And Queen Of The Ring Tournament on Saturday April 11th in Kearny, NJ.
