NWS Packs The Fans In Friday 1/30 & Saturday 1/31: Twin Sellouts in Manville & Brick, NJ With ECW Alumni Big Daddy V & Little Guido & Balls Mahoney Teaming Up, Plus Former WCW "Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan & More
National Wrestling Superstars had a double shot weekend in Manville, NJ on Friday 1/30 and Brick, NJ on Saturday 1/31. This king of the indy promotions once again proved why they are the closest thing to an old school territory out there, as both venues were complete sellouts (yes, we mean *COMPLETE* sellouts, meaning there was not a seat to be had either night).

And just as a good wrestler rises to a big challenge, so did NWS management.
Less than a week prior to the show, TNA Wrestling star "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash re-injured his elbow to the point where he could not appear as scheduled. Nash apologized to the NWS management and the fans, and hopes to be back in action in TNA soon and promised to make up the date with NWS.
Not to disappoint the fans, NWS management went out and found a replacement who could certainly match Nash in size and stature, in none other than former WWE & ECW star Big Daddy V (a.k.a Viscera/Mabel). Not only that, but NWS gave the fans a triple return on their investment (where else can you that this in this economy) by adding two other ECW alumni, Balls Mahoney and Little Guido (a.k.a WWE alumnus Nunzio) to the bill. And, not wanting to be like other promotions who lure in fans by promising headliners that they know will not be there, NWS did what they would done in the days of Athletic Commission oversight - they got the word out to the fans right away by posting updated press releases and reprinting the show posters with the ECW Alumni, and gave the fans who came to see Nash an opportunity to get refunds. (Over the two nights, only three requested refunds.)
What follows are the reports:
Friday 1/30 - Manville, NJ:
- The duo of NWS Cruiserweight Champion J.D. Smoothie & The Shadow defeated Nikko The Monkey Man & Paco Libro. After a wild back-and-forth match, Shadow pinned Nikko with an Atomic Drop and a Rock Bottom.
- In an Inter-Gender Tag-Team Match that was a prelude to NWS' King & Queen Of The Ring Tournament coming later in the year, the team of NWS Heavyweight Champion Danny Demanto & Trixie Lynn defeated Antonio Malave & Brooke Carter. Both Brooke and Trixie are rising stars on the local women's circuit, and it was easy to see why. But it was the size of the big veteran and champion Demanto that would rule the day, as he pinned Brooke with a Samoan Drop.
- In a tag-team Grudge Match, the wild man from Borneo King Nagumbo & the evil Indian warrior Draven (with manager Royce Profit) defeated Jack Spade & The Jersey Cowboy. This match was made back in December at NWS' last area appearance, and the two teams tore into each other from the start. Despite the valiant efforts of Spade & The Cowboy, their opponents' size and strength, as well as Profit's presence on the outside, was too much, and the combination of a Samoan Drop by Nagumbo on Spade, followed by a flying splash, secured the victory for his team.
- The match between "The Adjuster" Dr. Lamar Braxton Porter (with manager Royce Profit & former WWE star Salvatore Sincere & former ECW brawler The Equalizer) vs. former ECW star Little Guido (a.k.a WWE alum Nunzio) was declared a no-contest. When The Adjuster's original opponent The Rogue was announced as a no-show, Royce Profit announced him as the winner by forfeit. NWS Commissioner Gino Moore came out and dared Porter to not take the easy way out, and fight someone. Porter was goaded into accepting the challenge, and Commissioner Moore introduced former ECW star Little Guido. This match ended quickly after Little Guido was attacked by Sal and Equalizer minutes into the match. The attack was broken up by the appearance of Little Guido's former ECW friend Balls Mahoney and former WWE/ECW star Big Daddy V. Little Guido, never afraid of a fight against bigger opponents, offered to take on The Adjuster, Sal, and Equalizer himself, but Balls and Big Daddy V convinced Guido to team with them as an "ECW Reunion" team and make it a six-man main event, and Commissioner Moore agreed, but added one stipulation... since Royce Profit would be in the corner of his team, the ECW Reunion team was entitled to a manager, and he called out former WCW manager "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan.
- In a different six-man tag-team showdown, the team of former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot & Nate Mustang & Rich "Ice-Pick" Lowinski defeated Team Supremely Psychadelic (Corvis Fear & NWS Tag-Team Champions Nicky Oceans & "Mr. Motion" Shane Taylor). The combination of the tag-team champions and Ocean's former Team Supreme partner Fear made for a tough combination, but The Patriot's team had heart (and the crowd) in their corner, and after a wild affair inside and outside the ring, Mustang finished off Fear with a gorilla-press into a DDT.
- In a match for the NWS Jersey Shore Title, champion Mike "G.Q." Quest and the challenger, luchador Fright-Mare, fought to a ten-minute time-limit draw. Fright-Mare's blinding speed and high energy matched well with the veteran Quest, and neither man held a clear advantage. The bell rang as Quest was in the midst of pinning Fright-Mare after a German Suplex.
- In the main event, the "ECW Reunion" team of former stars Big Daddy V & Balls Mahoney & Little Guido (with former WCW manager "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan) defeated "The Adjuster" Dr. Lamar Braxton Porter & former WWE star Salvatore Sincere & former ECW brawler The Equalizer (with manager Royce Profit). As expected, no one on Profit's team could match Big Daddy V in size or power, and really didn't want to try, but they were able to isolate Balls Mahoney and then Little Guido in their corner. Still, the ECW Reunion team held on, and eventually were able to tag in Big Daddy V again, who leveled Profit's entire team, and finished off The Adjuster with a splash in the corner followed by a 450-pound belly-to-belly suplex, sending the crowd home happy and energized.
Saturday 1/31 - Brick, NJ:
- In a non-title match, Wasted Youth upset NWS Cruiserweight Champion J.D. Smoothie. Before the match, A.C. Kewl came out and asked what happened to the originally scheduled inter-gender match involving him and Smoothie. NWS Commissioner Gino Moore informed Kewl that the match had been postponed to a later date, and that he would be wrestling in a tag-team match later in the show. Kewl left the ring, but after Smoothie & Wasted Youth had battled back and forth for several minutes, Kewl returned to ringside and began jawing with Smoothie. While Smoothie was distracted, Wasted Youth snuck up and hit Smoothie with a backwards piledriver and pinned him 1-2-3.
- NWS Tag-Team Champions Oceans & Motions (Nicky Oceans & "Mr. Motion" Shane Taylor, with manager "Gigalo" Joe Jones) retained their titles against Nikko The Monkey Man & Slayer. Before the match, NWS referee S.P. Anderson made a surprise return after an absence of many months. S.P. claimed he had been recovering from a beating at the hands of two masked assailants, whom he had recently discovered were none other than Taylor & Oceans themselves. S.P. informed the champs that Commissioner Moore had appointed him a Deputy Commissioner, with the power to make matches and stipulations, and promised he would make the champions' lives a living hell. S.P. then left to the cheers of the crowd and the match was under way. The challengers' unorthodox high-flying styles befuddled the tag-team champions, but in the end it was manager Gigalo Joe Jones who proved the key to victory, when he lured Slayer out of the ring and to the back by tempting him with his favorite snack - a Milk-Bone dog biscuit. This left Nikko be double-teamed and pinned by the champions.
- NWS Heavyweight Champion Danny Demanto & The Wild Man from Borneo King Nagumbo (with former WCW manager "Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan & Sullivan's "personal assistant"former ECW brawler The Equalizer) defeated Ryan Blackheart & Cameron Shaft (with manager Goumba Johnny Diamond). Commissioner Moore ejected Equalizer from ringside for not being approved as Sullivan's assistant, despite Equalizer's claim that he only wanted to stay at ringside to scout out Blackheart for their hardcore Tables Match in Lacey in March. After a back-and-forth brawl from these four power wrestlers, Blackheart was on the verge of victory when the Equalizer returned to ringside and hit Blackheart with the NWS Hardcore Title Belt, allowing Nagumbo to pin Blackheart for the victory. Commissioner Moore congratulated Demanto on making it to the "big time", and he was gonna show him the meaning of "big time" in Point Pleasant in March, when Demanto & Nagumbo would team up to face midget senstion Short Sleeve Sampson & his partner, former WWE Oddities member Giant Silva. Demanto's face suddenly became very unnerved as he left the ring.
- The match between former ECW brawler The Equalizer (with managers Royce Profit and Gigalo Joe Jones and "Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan & former WWE star Salvatore Sincere & "The Adjuster" Dr. Lamar Braxton Porter & "The Legend Killer" Helter Skelter) vs. former ECW star Little Guido (a.k.a WWE alum Nunzio) was declared a no-contest. When Equalizer's original opponent The Rogue was announced as a no-show, Equalizer declared himself the winner by forfeit. NWS Commissioner Gino Moore came out and dared Equalizer to not take the easy way out, and fight someone. Equalizer was goaded into accepting the challenge, and Commissioner Moore introduced former ECW star Little Guido. This match ended quickly after Little Guido was attacked by Sal, Porter, and Helter Skelter minutes into the match. The attack was broken up by the appearance of Little Guido's former ECW friend Balls Mahoney and former WWE/ECW star Big Daddy V. Little Guido, never afraid of a fight against bigger opponents, offered to take on The Adjuster, Sal, Helter, and Equalizer all by himself, but Balls and Big Daddy V convinced Guido to team with them as an "ECW Alumni" team and make it a four-on-three main event, and Commissioner Moore agreed, but added one stipulation... this would be a two-out-of-three-falls "old school" match. Balls then pointed out that their opponents had three managers and they had none, and convinced Gigalo Joe Jones to "defect" from Royce Profit's stable and join his team, which he accepted.
- Antonio Malave & "Ice-Fire" Steve Zapf defeated A.C. Kewl & The Sole Assassin. After a back-and-forth battle, Kewl was perched on the top rope to finish off Zapf, when J.D. Smoothie appeared and knocked Kewl off the ropes (apparently delivering payback for earlier) and delivered a flying legdrop to Kewl, allowing Zapf to make the easy pin.
- In a match for the NWS Jersey Shore Title, champion Myke "G.Q." Quest and challenger Travis Blake fought to a no-contest. Blake and Quest put on a high-flying high-impact match which had the fans on the edge of their seats, and after Blake hit a superkick on Quest, it looked like the title would change hands, but the NWS Tag-Team Champions Nicky Oceans & Shane Taylor hit the ring and attacked Taylor, only to be driven off by Blake's "Philly Wiz Kids" tag-team partner Jumping Joey Janella. Commissioner Moore ruled the match a double-disqualification, but also announced that Blake & Janella, by being runners-up in the previous week's J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament, had earned an NWS Tag-Team Title shot against Oceans & Taylor in March in Point Pleasant.
- In the Main Event, The ECW Alumni (Big Daddy V & Balls Mahoney & Little Guido, with still slightly reluctant manager Gigalo Joe Jones) defeated former WWE star Salvatore Sincere & former ECW brawler The Equalizer & "The Adjuster" Dr. Lamar Braxton Porter & "The Legend Killer" Helter Skelter (with managers Royce Profit & "Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan) two falls to one in a Handicap Tag-Team Match. This was nothing short of a wild affair inside & outside the ring. Helter Skelter actually won the first fall for his team, living up to his monniker by pinning Balls Mahoney (with an assist by Sal Sincere who tripped up Balls as he was preparing to hit Helter with a Nutcracker Suite). Little Guido was able to even the score for his team by levelling The Adjuster with the Sicilian Slice and pinning him 1-2-3. The Equalizer continued to work over Little Guido, and it looked like Equalizer would get the final victory, when Ryan Blackheart came out from the back, hit Equalizer with a chair, and threw him back into the ring into the waiting arms of Big Daddy V, who flattened Equalizer with a huge belly-to-belly suplex and pinned him to give his team the victory and send the crowd home happy.
NWS returns with another double shot weekend Friday night February 6th at the Middletown, NJ VFW Hall and Satuday night February 7th at Edison, NJ's St. Matthew's School Gym, headlined by TNA Wrestling star "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal and former WWE star Bushwacker Luke.
