WWE Hall Of Fame Legend Nikolai Volkoff
Team Supreme Returns
The Double H Squad Debuts & More.
National Wrestling Superstars returned to the Belleville, NJ Knights Of Columbus Hall on Friday night November 14th. With the continuing economic downturn, the crowd was light, but more than made up for their numbers with their enthusiasm, especially for the much anticipated main event match.
NWS Cruiserweight Champion J.D. Smoothie retained his title against Jumping Joey Janella. The match was originally supposed to be a triple-threat match includind Dan Rageous, but Dan, who was at the venue, had recent minor neck surgery and wasn't cleared to wrestle for another week. The match was a high-flying clinic as both men used their well-heeled aerial tactics. When Smoothie realized that he was evenly matched, he grabbed a handful of powder and aimed it at Janella, but missed and blinded the referee instead. Janella slapped on a sharpshooter and Smoothie tapped, but there was no referee to make the call. Into the ring came Dan Rageous, who bulldogged Janella, then placed a semi-conscious Smoothie on top of him, as the referee recovered enough to count 1-2-3. Dan continued to attack Janella until Commissioner Moore threatened him with suspension if he continued.
The Double H Squad (Corey Havoc & Bryan Harley), making their tag-team debut, defeated Ryan Angus & Justin Corino. This new tag-team proved to be a force to be reckoned with, as they dominated their opponents, winning after a double chokeslam on Angus and a 1-2-3.
Before the next match, Danny Demanto and Mister Nick Gregory came out to the ring. Demanto proclaimed that nothing would stop him from defeating Vicious Vinny in their Sicilian Stretcher Match later that night, and walking out the new NWS Heavyweight Champion, while Gregory promised to take out WWE hall-of-fame legend Nikolai Volkoff in their match.
Antonio Malave vs. Pastor George went to a ten-minute time limit draw. The Pastor was able to match the experienced luchador Malave hold-for-hold for ten minutes, and the bell rang without a pinfall. The crowd asked for five more minutes, and Pastor George was more than eager, but Malave refused and left the ring.
WWE hall of fame legend Nikolai Volkoff defeated Nick Gregory (with Danny Demanto). Danny Demanto tried to claim he was Gregory's manager, but Commissioner Moore had him expelled from ringside. Volkoff came to the ring and started to sing "God Bless America", but was attacked by Gregory. The match turned into a hard-hitting brawl, as the Russian giant proved he can still stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the ring, but Volkoff prevailed and leveled Gregory with a Russian Hammer for the three-count. Danny Demanto returned to the ring and started a two-on-one attack on Volkoff, which was broken up when NWS Heavyweight Champion Vicious Vinny ran into the ring, and he and Demanto started going at it in advance of their main event match. It took the entire rest of the NWS locker room to separate the two combatants.
Josh Daniels & Damian Adams defeated Team Supreme (Nicky Oceans & Corvis Fear). This was the first appearance of the 2006 J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament Champions in over a year, which may have hurt the team that was what was once known as the future of tag team of wrestling. They were able to match veterans Daniels and Adams hold for hold for nearly 15 minutes, but at the end, Adams hit Corvis with a brainbuster suplex and pinned him 1-2-3.
Danny Demanto defeated Vicious Vinny in a Sicilian Stretcher Match to become the *NEW* NWS Heavyweight Champion. Withe the rulebook out the window, the two men brawled all over the arena, using chairs, crutches, Wet Floor signs, and anything they could get their hands on. Vinny actually had Demanto down on the stretcher on a few occasions, but each time the determined Demanto was able to get up and keep fighting. Demanto eventually leveled Vinny by putting a chair on his chest and hitting him with a flying splash. He then proclaimed he was going to make sure Vinny didn't get up off the stretcher this time, and then proceeded to place a cinder block on Vinny's head and as the crowd gasped he whacked it with a chair, cracking the cinder block and knocking Vinny completely cold. Demanto then placed Vinny on the stretcher and wheeled him away from ringside, earning the bell from the referee and the victory. Vinny was carted away in an ambulance and was not released from medical care until later that night.
NWS Commissioner Moore announced that the two would have one final showdown in nearby Bloomfield in February, and the battle would be held inside a STEEL CAGE! As Demanto celebrated with his new title, he promised that cage or no, Vinny would never be champion again.
NWS returns to action with a double-shot next weekend - Friday night November 21st at the Red Bank Catholic High School Gym in Red Bank, NJ, and then Sunday afternoon November 23rd they join up with their Delaware affiliate Funkdafied Wrestling Federation for their annual "Toys For Tots (And Funk For Fans)" show in at the Christiana, DE Fire Company Hall.
