CLEVELAND -- Jack Reynolds, the father of Fox 8 sports Anchor Tony Rizzo, passed away at the age of 71. Reynolds had been hospitalized for three 1/2 weeks for bypass heart surgery and then for an intestinal operation. He had weathered it all and was recovering, but he took a turn last night and died early this morning. Reynolds was a well-known AM radio personality in Cleveland for 30 years beginning in 1960, most prominently at WHK and for a dozen years at WWWE 1100. He was even more famous, however, as host of pro wrestling on channel 43 in the 1970's. In the 1980's he hosted a national pro wrestling show with Jesse Ventura on cable television. He grew up on the southeast side of Cleveland and his real name was Joseph Rizzo, but when he started in radio ethnic names often were changed to more homogenized monickers. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ripepi Funeral Home, 5762 Pearl Road in Parma. The funeral mass will be Monday morning at 9:30 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 14865 East Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights. Click here to send your condolences to Tony Rizzo and his family. |
