Power House Returns to Worcester

By: Chris Sullivan

Power House Wrestling makes it big return to Worcester on Saturday night, September 6.  The huge event will take place at the Worcester Armory.  The Armory is located at 701 Lincoln Street in Worcester, MA.  The action will kick off at 7pm, but get to the building early for a special meet and greet with the wrestlers when doors open at 6pm.

Power House Wrestling has been the main wrestling federation in Worcester for a number of years.  Many of today’s stars and wrestling legends have competed in Worcester for Power House Wrestling promoter Chris Setro.  Some stars that have wrestled for Power House include; the late great Chris Candido, TNA’s Monster Abyss, Abdullah the Butcher, Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake, Billy Gunn, N.W.O member Buff Bagwell and many others.  On September 6, Chris Setro will continue to bring huge stars to Worcester as three former television wrestlers will be appearing along with the stars of New England.

Wrestling legend Jake “the Snake” Roberts will be headlining the Power House Wrestling event.  Jake Roberts has competed all over with world.  Roberts has wrestled for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW).  During his long career he has made stops in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and Total Non-Stop Action (TNA).  Jake Roberts has feuded with Rick Rude, Andre the Giant, Ted Dibiase, Rick Martel, Randy “Macho Man” Savage, and The Undertaker in the WWE.  At Wrestlemania 7 Jake Roberts and Rick Martel battled in the first ever “Blind Fold” match. After leaving WWE Jake went on to feuded with Sting in the WCW.  Jake Roberts left the wrestling spotlight until the 1996 Royal Rumble.  He wrestled for another year before leaving the WWE again.  Recently, Jake Roberts has begun to make a buzz once again in the wrestling world, which included an appearance against Randy Orton on WWE Raw and at TNA’s Slammiversary.  On September 6, Jake the Snake looks to continue his roll back to the top by defeating “Jact” Jimmy Cash.  Cash has been a key player in Power House Wrestling for sometime now.  He has wrestled Spike Dudley, Jason Knight, Chris Candido, Jerry Lawler, Sabu, and many others on his way to becoming a huge star.  Jake Roberts plans on hitting his DDT to Jimmy “Jact” Cash, but Cash plans on using Roberts as another stepping stone to greatness.

Steve Corino is set to appear on Saturday night September 6 in Worcester against Gino Martino in a chain match.  Steve Corino is no stranger to extreme matches.  Corino has wrestled all over the world, winning many titles in his travels which includes the ECW World Championship.  The “King of Old School” Steve Corino has wrestled The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible, Dusty Rhodes, New Jack, and Balls Mahoney in some of the Bloodiest Matches in ECW history.  Corino plans on showing the “Extreme Strongman” Gino Martino what extreme really means.  Not only is Corino a former ECW World Champion, but he is a former NWA World Champion.  Being a NWA World Champion means you are one the best wrestlers in the world.  Corino does not have to go hardcore or extreme.  He is a wrestler, but if Martino makes Corino go extreme it will be a real hardcore match.

Making his long awaited return to the wrestling world will be Jim Powers.  Jim Powers made his debut in the WWE in 1984, but is when not until he began to team with Paul Roma when his career began to take notice.  The team of Powers and Roma were called “The Young Stallions”.  As a team, Powers and Roma feuded with the British Bulldogs, The Hart Foundation, and Demolition.  In 1987, the Young Stallions defeated then WWE Tag Team Champions the Hart Foundation in a non title match at NBC’s Saturday Nights Main Event.  After the team broke up, Jim Powers did not have much more success in the WWE.  Jim Powers would leave wrestling and then return in WCW during the Monday Night Wars.  In WCW, Jim Powers was managed by Teddy Long but did not get past mid-card status when the N.W.O began to run wild in WCW.  Jim Power wants to show the world that he still has it and will take on Power House wrestler Eric Sherd on September 6.

“The Rocket” Fred Curry will finally get his shot at the Power House Wrestling Heavy Title.  PHW Champion Big Business for months has been using members of his M.O.B. (Men of Business) to keep Curry away from him.  Fred Curry defeated Jimmy Cash, when on to have a long feud with Gino Martino and defeated them both.  On September 6, Chris Setro announced that Big Business must put the Power House Title on the line against The Rocket Fred Curry.

The Lovely ladies will be in action when Amber defeats her PHW Women’s Title against Sammi Lane.  Sammi Lane has been making waves in Power House ever since her start and now that she has ties with the M.O.B. she maybe unstoppable.  In what is being called the show stealer AWA Fighting World Champion Ricky Landell will put his title on the line against Josh Daniels.  Daniels and Landell will be putting on a pure wrestling match the likes that Worcester has not seen.  All this and more will be seen by the packed house at the Worcester Armory on September 6.

Tickets for Power House Wrestling return to Worcester are only $15 and on sale at all FYE locations and at the door the night of the show.  For more information on the September 6 event you can visit the Power House Wrestling site at http://powerhousene.tripod.com.
