Bruno Sammartino defeated Buddy “Nature Boy” Rogers in 48 seconds

Bruno is declared the new WWWF  Heavyweight Champion

I was fortunate enough to be sitting at my reserved Second Row Ringside seat at the old Madison Square Garden.  Section K  Row 2  Seat 1

At the time, I was the President of the Buddy Rogers Fan Club.

I had a lot of mixed emotions during this match.  Being close to Buddy, running his club and all, and being friends with Bruno since November 1959.

This was the start of a very long reign for Bruno Sammartino, the Living Legend.

Bruno Sammartino vs. Pedro Morales

Shea Stadium September 30, 1972

This grueling match went to a 76 minute curfew DRAW.

All the Japanese Magazines ran a full story  on the match in all their publications.

Pedro was the WWWF Champion and Bruno Sammartino was the Challenger at this time.

These two men have so much respect for each other.

Nowadays we are lucky to see a match go for 20 minutes.

On the program it was advertised next MSG show October 16th when Pedro and Bruno team together against Professor Tanaka and Mr. Fuji.

Bruno and Pedro defeated Tanaka and Fuji.

1st fall in 10:59 via a DQ.

2nd fall in 6:35 with double pin

In a 2 out of 3 fall match.

Thought it would be nice to reminisce once again.  There aren't many wrestling sites that do this or can do this for our readers who might enjoy seeing some of the past events in wrestling.

I also thought this might be a nice feature we could add to the site by the readers.  You can send us one of your favorite past events including pictures.  It would be a way to keep wrestling of the past ALIVE.
