ATLANTA (AP) -- The personal doctor of the pro wrestler who killed his wife and son and then committed suicide in June has filed for bankruptcy.
Dr. Phil Astin, who faces federal charges of over prescribing medication to two patients other than wrestler Chris Benoit, filed his voluntary Chapter Seven petition on October 1st in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Subsequent docket entries by the court state that the petition was deficient, and the court set several due dates by which Astin must file a list of all of his creditors, a statement of financial affairs and other documentation.
In the petition, Astin listed estimated assets of up to $10,000 and estimated liabilities of up to $50,000.
Last month, a judge appointed a public defender to represent Astin after his private attorney asked to be removed from the case because Astin could no longer pay his legal bills.
Astin's attorney had said that since being placed under house arrest in the case, Astin has been unable to work and foreclosure notices and other liens have been placed on his real estate interests.
