WITH PHOTO’s….
Hey Georgiann,I have been really enjoying reading about other fan's experiences meeting wrestlers and I figured I'd join in on the fun. I am a 21 year old college student in Connecticut, but I've lived in New Jersey most of my life. I have met a few wrestlers in my days and most of them have been absolutely awesome. I have met some great people like Triple H, Edge, and even the "Mc" man himself, Vince McMahon (I know that was dumb, but I'm trying). Here's a short, but fairly detailed list of my experiences...
Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart: I met him at an Indy show when I was a kid. Real nice guy, he took a whole bunch of pictures and signed a whole bunch of autographs.
Virgil: I've met him twice. Once at an Indy show when I was younger and then maybe about seven years ago at my local mall. Both times he was nice. I made him a sign the first time I saw at an Indy show (Hey, I was a fan) and he seemed pretty happy and I think he even signed it for me (I was pretty pumped). When I met him more recently he was doing an autograph session, but I didn't want to pay for an autograph, I just wanted to meet him so I waited in the short but concise line and shook his hand and he was just as nice as I remembered him.
Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka: Same as the other two, I met him at a local Indy show when I was a young kid and he was very nice and friendly to everyone. I even remember when he made his ring entrance all of these kids (including me) would crowd around him and he would shake hands with everyone and say "Hey, how are ya?" or "How are ya doin?" to every kid around him. Even though his ring entrance took almost as long as an Undertaker Wrestlemania entrance, I thought that it was incredibly nice and cool of him to do that. I've also seen him at a few New Jersey Nets games. I haven't gone in a while, but when I've seen him he would usually sit courtside.
Back in 2002, I was actually in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and I was fortunate enough to be able to walk over to the WWE float with my cousin. There we got to meet some big names.
Jerry "The King" Lawler: Real awesome guy! He was friendly, nice, and actually seemed genuinely happy to meet my cousin and I. I remember being so excited that I told him I was going to buy his new autobiography, but sadly I never actually did. I still feel kind of bad about it, but I think he's doing OK without my purchase.
Jim Ross: He was actually not the most pleasant. He wasn't very friendly nor did he seem happy to be there. Compared to Jerry Lawler anyone would seem a little unfriendly, but Jim Ross just was not at all like I expected. He probably wasn't happy to be working on Thanksgiving, but I still think he could have been a little nicer.
The Hurricane: Meeting The Hurricane was awesome because at this time he was one of my favorites. He was real nice and was took a picture with me. At this point he was on the WWE float, but he still did the Hurricane pose from the float right in back of me. I was real pumped!
Triple H: Unlike, some reports, I have nothing but great things to say about Triple H. He was extremely nice and friendly. He even told me to I can climb on the float with him so I can get a better picture. He was incredibly cool and I look at him as a model on how wrestler's should treat fans.
Vince McMahon: Getting to meet the "Mc" man (I know, I did it again) was one of those moments where turn out to be much different and much better than you expect. When my cousin and I were walking back to our float we spotted him on the WWE float and I immediately felt star-struck. My cousin wanted to go meet him, but I was skeptical. As much as I actually wanted to meet him, I was pretty nervous. Nonetheless, my cousin out "Mr. McMahon!", within seconds Vince turns around and greets us both with a big smile, a "Hello, how are you guys doing?" and if that wasn't enough already we also got a wave. We told him that we were big fans and we wished him "Happy Thanksgiving". He replied with "Thank you guys very much." We then had to leave, but he waved good-bye and thanked us for stopping by. Getting to meet Vince was a surreal experience that I will always remember.
Big Show: I met him at my local mall during an autograph session. I didn't get an autograph, but I did shake his massive hands. He was very nice, very friendly, and very big. The one thing I remember the most was that he had a small table next to him with two big pizza slices, a super-large fry, and a super-large soda.
Mick Foley: Everything you hear about him is true...he's the man. I've met him once and he was incredibly nice and friendly, but my friend went to a baseball game once in spring of 2006 and Mick was there. He was sitting by himself, so my friend went over to meet him, but ended up sitting with him for almost half of the game. I wasn't there, but he told me they were sitting, watching baseball, and talking about various things such as movies, books, and of course...wrestling. This lasted for almost half of the game. He said Mick was one of the nicest coolest guys he ever met. I still get a little jealous when I hear that story.
Doink The Clown: When I was kid, Doink was one of my absolute favorites. Hell, I still love him! In my life, I've met more Doinks that I care to mention. I've met tall Doinks, short Doinks, fat Doinks, skinny Doinks, I've met Doinks with moustaches, Doinks with glasses on. I even think I met a Doink with who spelled the name Doink wrong. However, I have met the "real" Doink once in my life. Well, at least I think and hope he was the real Doink. He had an authentic looking green wig and he even had the blue jacket. I was real pumped that I finally got to meet the real thing. When I met him, I asked if we can expect to see him back anytime soon and he said "Hopefully". This was probably about six years ago.
Viscera: I met Big Vis right around the time of Wrestlemania 20. The funny part is my cousin and I spoke to him for a few minutes and he said he thinks he'll be making a return to WWE real soon. Then about a year later Mr. Viscera makes his long awaited return to Smackdown. I couldn't believe it. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was pro-wrestling insider.
AJ Styles: Met him at an ROH show in CT back in October of 2005. He took the time to shake all ouir hands and meet us but wasn't the most friendly. I was just happy to meet him though.
Low-Ki (I know his TNA name is Senshi, but Low-Ki is way cooler): One of the most intimidating guys to meet. He didn't really smile, but was nice enough to take a picture and sign autographs with everyone, including myself. I always really respect that. He also had one the strongest hand-shake I have ever encountered. It was pretty painful.
Raven: Real nice guy. Also, took pictures and signed for everybody who wanted. Nothing but good things to say aobut him.
Sonjay Dutt: Sonjay was really cool. I actually spoke to him for a little while too. I asked for a picture and he said joked around and said only if I bought a t-shirt from him. I didn't buy one, but he still took a picture. Real cool guy.
Honky Tonk Man: I've met him a few times. Always a real nice guy. Always very friendly, but seemed bitter when I wore my Roddy Piper shirt. It was the shirt that said "FRATS!" and he said "What's that shirt say, farts?"
Stevie Richards: When I was looking at colleges I looked at Hofstra University in Long Island one day. My mom and I went to check out the Roosevelt Field Mall and while we were walking I spot a guy wearing a "RAW" t-shirt sporting long hair with a pony tail. As I get closer I notice it was Stevie Richards. I stopped him to shake his hand and he was very nice and friendly. He almost even seemed excited that someone noticed him. It was really cool to meet Stevie Richards while walking through a mall.
Romeo Roselli: Met him with some friend at an Indy show. Real nice guy and he even agreed to do an interview for our wrestling radio talk show, "Thursday Night's Main Event". I'll keep you posted when he comes on.
Randy Orton and Edge: When I met Orton I didn't really have a bad experience with him. It was at an organized autograph session with him and Edge. I got Orton's signature. The two things that pissed me off a little bit were when I requested to the security guard that Orton sign a specific area on my figure, he didn't listen and when the security guard asked him to sign where I reuqested in an annoyed manner replied with, "Too late now". That wasn't a big deal, but I was a little disappointed. Then when my friends and I were leaving, Edge and Orton were leaving the mall at the same time. So when I saw them I thanked them for coming and I shooked Edge's hand. Edge replied with "Thanks alot for coming guys". He was incredibly nice and cool. Before I could get to Orton he said in a sarcastic and annoyed tone "You're welcome". Maybe he thought I only said "Thanks" to Edge, but either way, he wasn't the most friendly guy ever. The moral of the story, Edge is an awesome guy, Orton...well, is not as awesome.
Anyways, I'm pretty much done. Meeting some of my favorite wrestlers has always been a real thrill for me. It's something I love being able to do, and I hope that I can continue my good luck with some more of my wrestling favorites. Thank you for reading about my experiences. I hope you ejoyed them. I'll be starting my wrestling radio show in a couple of weeks, if you're interested in tuning in on the internet feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and I'd be super-pumped to give you all the details. It's pretty cool. Anyways, thanks again, and here are some pictures of me with some wrestlers...
