WWE Raw House Show
Friday, June 16th, 2006
Hartford Civic Center * Hartford, CT
Att: 6,000 estimated
Solid house show effort from WWE with one building
issue that left many fans angry.
Show opened with the opening to DX's theme song (ala
Eric Bischoff when he was Raw GM) followed by the
Monday Night Raw theme song
- Eugene def. Rob Conway
Conway attempted to clothesline Eugene going for the
Rock Bottom. Eugene ducked and hit the stunner for the
win.
- The Highlanders def. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch
One of the Highlanders pinned Murdoch with a big splash
from the top. Umaga attacked the Highlanders on his
way to the ring with Armando.
- Umaga def. Viscera
Umaga thumb'd Viscera to the throat and pinned him
- Carlito def. Johnny Nitro (with Melina)
Carlito was super over with the crowd and worked a
completely different style as a baby than as a heel,
which is refreshing in this day and age. Match was
solid.
- Matt Striker came out to some "go away" heat for his
Classroom interview segment. He said "Hacksaw" Jim
Duggan was scheduled to be his guest but he was a
coward like the fans in Hartford. Duggan came out to a
huge pop. Striker taunted Duggan until he punched him,
then he asked the fans to remember the men and women in the military protecting our freedom. A fun segment.
- Randy Orton def. Kane
Kane was on the verge of victory until 1997 Kane made
his way to the ring. After a staredown, 2006 Kane
clotheslined 1997 out of the ring but was hit with an
RKO for Orton's victory. Post match, 1997 Kane
chokeslammed 2006.
Intermission
- Jonathan Coachman came out to some more go away heat, leading to the bra and panties tag team match we've seen 9,129 times on Raw.
- Torrie Wilson & Maria def. Candice Michelle & Mickie
James
Beyond horrible, an insult to the term professional
wrestling. I'd like to see them attend a seminar with
Harley Race and Les Thatcher for a weekend.
- John Cena def. Edge in a No Holds Barred Match
Cena got the biggest pop of the night, the boo birds
weren't out in Hartford, never heard that type of
reaction from a mid-sized crowd. Excellent match where
Cena bled from head to toe, pinning Edge with the FU.
The ring announcer and referee spent the better part of
15 minutes disinfecting the ring for the final match.
- Shawn Michaels & HHH def. Spirit Squad
DX came out to a big ovation and did their 1997 routine
with the old "for the thousands in attendance and
millions not watching all over the world." DX sold
little for most of the match. Squad got some heat on
Michaels, who made the hot tag to HHH and then played
human pinball. Finish was a pedigree and superkick at
the same time.
- Again, a very good house show with a hot crowd that
was into every wrestling match. Lots of young kids
swearing. Before the event, walk up fans were told
that the cheapest tickets were only available in
scattered singles, forcing them to buy the more
expensive seats. Once in the building, the entire
upper section of the building was empty, meaning there
were thousands of $22 seats available. If WWE doesn't
want to sell $22 seats, they shouldn't offer them.
- Fans were given flyers outside of the building for
the Batista/Melina autograph session tomorrow.
Independent wrestler "Black Lotus" Matt Ledge was
outside the building signing autographs, as well.
