BILL BEHRENS NWA NOTES for 5-22-06
5/20 NWA Anarchy Report By: Larry Goodman
“Excessive Force,” at the NWA Arena in Cornelia, turned out to be a better show than all but the most optimistic NWA Anarchy fans could have expected. In a surprising title switch, Krazy K defeated Hayden Young to become the new Anarchy television champion. The owner of Anarchy exploded on Anarchy’s arch enemies. But it was the Texas Tornado match featuring Ace Rockwell and Slim J vs. Devil’s Rejects that stole the show with one of the best Anarchy matches in recent memory.
There was reason to question the wisdom of Anarchy’s decision to squeeze in another major show at this juncture. NWA Wildside traditionally allowed three months to build from Hardcore Hell to the summer big show. On paper, this show didn’t pack the emotional wallop or have the talent depth to give it that “big show feel.”
Spurred on by a molten hot crowd of 150, the Anarchy wrestlers turned it up a notch, and some cases turned the dial all the way to the right, to produce a memorable evening at the NWA Arena.
Ring announcer Ernie Rich introduced two servicemen that had just recently returned from
(1) Brett Thunder & Randall Johnson & Adrian Hawkins beat Skitzo & Hector Navarro & Big Dog (with Rudy Boy Gonzalez) in If Anarchy is looking for somebody strap a rocket on, they need to look no further than Thunder. Everything he did was crisp and on target. He’s got the look to go with it, like a lankier version of “Z Man” Tom Zenk. Dog has decided that Afro-American blondes have more fun. Thunder took punishment to the back from the Texans. Thunder nailed an enzuigiri and hot-tagged Hawkins, who popped the crowd by vaulting off the top rope and charging full speed into the opposite corner to deck the heels. This thing was breaking down. Navarro and Hawkins clobbered each other with simultaneous clotheslines. RBG got in the ring to superkick Hawkins, but Thunder pulled him out. Hawkins pinned Navarro with an inside cradle. Postmatch, Gonzalez leveled Thunder with a superkick. A very hot opening match.
(2) Krazy K beat Dexter Poindexter to earn a shot at the NWA Anarchy TV title in 12:43. They did some amazing things in this match, but it lacked heat, probably because there was no issue that the crowd could sink their teeth into. Few gimmicky characters in pro wrestling are as well executed as Poindexter. His comedy stuff cracks me up every time. K hit his version of Seth Delay’s Kool Krusher and followed up with a springboard twisting legdrop for a near fall. K went flying through the ropes to the outside. Poindexter did the Exam Cram and hit a tope. With Poindexter hanging upside down from the middle rope and facing to the outside of the ring, K nailed him with a kneedrop off the top rope. It looked risky as hell but they were both OK. K applied an inverted chinlock/headscissors combo submission. Both men down after a flying knee by Poindexter. He pulled the suspenders down and hit a cravate legsweep, but K was in the ropes. K hit the Bluelight Special (drop down double knee from a J driller position) for a near fall. K pinned Poindexter with the OverDoSe (reverse DDT legdrop).
Adam Roberts entered the ring with the “
(3) The Guys (Seth Delay & Patrick Bentley) beat
Roberts decked Hayme and referee Wesley Grissom after the match. Roberts was preparing to whip Hayme with the ref’s belt when Guys made the save. Bentley and Delay then made their peace with Hayme.
(4) Devil’s Rejects (Shaun Tempers & Azrael with Dan Wilson) beat Ace Rockwell & Slim J in a
(5) Krazy K beat Hayden Young to win the NWA Anarchy TV title in 11:15 . They started the match like their left hands were glued together. K threw the first punch. They traded until K bailed. K landed a roundhouse kick to the face and Young took a time out. K did a slingshot to the floor where he pulled out the old Caprice Coleman baseball slide around the ringpost. Back inside, K went for the sprinkler elbow drop and Young rolled out of the way. Young connected with a spinning enzuigiri. K kicked out of a delayed cover. Young turned K inside out with a lariat for one near fall and hit his sky high legdrop for another. K answered with a tornado facebuster. K gave Young a double stomp for a near fall. K climbed but Young caught him with a full rotation german suplex off the top. They swapped stiff kicks to the thigh. K skipped over a sweep kick and leveled Young with a superkick for a great near fall. K did the headstand in the corner. Young converted it into an
K circled the ring on his way out. Brandon P was in the first row. They hugged. P clubbed K and jumped the rail. P whipped K face first into the announcer’s booth. HARD. Fans got all over P. Security dragged P’s ass out of the building through the front door.
Rockwell cut a promo that was babyface fire personified. It makes all the difference in the world when a promo rings true with gut level emotion. Rockwell had a cast on wrist and a huge bandage around his gut. Rockwell said he had been best friend with Shaun Tempers for 10 years and they had worked their asses off (as Pomp & Circumstance) to get into Wildside. Now, he was going to kick Tempers’ ass. Rockwell said if Tempers wanted to bring a hammer, he would bring a sledge and be HHH for a night. If Tempers wanted to bring a bat, he would bring one wrapped in barbed wire and be Cactus Jack for a night. Rockwell asked for an Anarchy Rulz match against Tempers for where fans bring the weapons on 6/3. “Sean Tempers, your ass better come for a fight, because I’m not coming for anything less.”
(6)
(7) Urban Assault Squad (Shadow Jackson & Nemesis beat Devil’s Rejects (Iceberg & Dominous with
Rejects laid out the babyface side. Wilson, who was still in the ring with Tempers and Azrael, asked if there was anyone else. Out came Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer to a monster pop.
NOTES: Last night was Young’s last Anarchy appearance for the forseeable future. He’s moving to the

staff paying their respects at ringside during the ten

1. Rock Star Ricky Thunder vs. Big Daddy Frank (with
Mr. Oki)
Referee Kazz was knocked unconscious at the eight
minute mark when Big Daddy Frank was setting Ricky
Thunder up for the Heartbreaker and nearly took Kazz's
head off with Ricky Thunder's feet. While referee Kazz
was out, both Big Daddy Frank and Ricky Thunder could
have scored pins, but there was no referee to count.
Taking advantage of the situation, Nightmare snuck
into the ring with a steel chair and caught Ricky
Thunder in a vicious DDT onto the chair. Nightmare
snuck out and Big Daddy Frank covered Ricky Thunder
just as Kazz started to come to. Referee Kazz only saw
the cover, counted three, and awarded the pinfall
victory to Big Daddy Frank. (time 11:17)
2. (Triple threat, non-title match) Nightmare vs.
Kaniala vs. Ativalu
Triple threat matches are always wild, but this one
was even more so because of Rock Star Ricky Thunder.
Just after the ten minute mark, Kaniala landed an
over-the-top-rope flying body press onto Ativalu, who
was already on the floor. Referee Scott Stryker left
the ring to get Kaniala and Ativalu back into the
ring, which left Nightmare standing alone in the
middle of the ring. Out of nowhere, Ricky Thunder
jumped into the ring and hit a Thunderbolt to get
revenge for the first match. Thunder jumped out of the
ring just as Kaniala and referee Stryker re-entered
the ring. Kaniala quickly finished Nightmare off for
the pinfall victory. (time 11:31)
After the match, Rock Star Ricky Thunder challenged
Nightmare to a House of Pain match on Friday, May 19.
Before the next match started, Commissioner Muraco
called Ahuna to ringside to wish him a happy birthday.
Kaniala, Jody Lopez, Ricky Thunder, and Kaimana joined
them at ringside with a birthday cake. Unfortunately,
as Jody Lopez was giving the cake to Ahuna, Kaimana
and Kaniala bumped into J-Lo, which made the cake go
into Ahuna's face and then onto the floor. Kaimana
quickly said, "Ahuna, I know you're mad, but HE did
it," and pointed to Jo-Lo.
3. Ahuna vs. Jody Lopez
Was this really the match that was planned, or was it
a result of the dropped cake?
For a while, it looked as though Ahuna would lose his
cake and his match. Taking a page from the legendary
arm and shoulder) and pounded on it mercilessly.
Despite the extreme pain from J-Lo's submission holds,
shoulder breaker, and devastating knees to his arm,
Ahuna refused to submit. It was undoubtedly this
determination to win on his birthday gave Ahuna the
strength to turn regain an advantage, slam J-Lo from
the top rope, and cover him for the pin. Happy
Birthday, Ahuna! (time 10:29, ref. Jeremy the Axe)
4. (NWA Hawaiian Heavyweight Title) Kaimana vs. Kapu
On April 29 at the New Products Expo, Kaimana
challenged Kapu to "any kind" of match, but he may
have regretted his choice of words when a hardcore
match was signed.
Kaimana was the first to bring weapons into the match:
a steel chair, a golf ball, and a golf club. Kapu
responded with a loaf of bread (?), a screwdriver,
crutches, a street sign, and a table that would play a
devastating role at the end of the match. Kaimana
brought in a ladder and Security Chief Drew's
flashlight. Kapu also introduced cookie sheets, a
garbage can, a bowling ball, and a skateboard into the
match.
Kapu's forehead was split open and pouring blood
during the match but Kaimana wasn't quite able to cash
in on the advantage. When fans called for Kaimana to
throw Kapu through the table that Kapu had taken out,
Kaimana tried to throw Kapu into the far ropes for
some momentum, but Kapu reversed it and suplexed
Kaimana over the top rope and onto the table, which
split in half from the impact. Kapu dragged Kaimana
back into the ring and delivered a reverse DDT. Then
to add insult to injury, Kapu used a single finger to
cover Kaimana for the pinfall victory and NWA Hawaiian
Heavyweight Championship Title. (time 20:50, ref.
Jeremy the Axe)
As Kapu was celebrating his victory, Kuulei Adolpho
and Tsunami came to the ring to discuss the Malia
Hosaka situation with Commissioner Muraco. The tape
that Malia sent was played for everyone in attendance.
To sum it up, Malia was looking forward to coming to
Coast and in
promise to come to
and Kuulei were upset, but Commissioner Muraco had
arranged with Mr. Oki to secure a replacement opponent
for Tsunami.
5. Tsunami vs. Lady Dragonsnake
It's bad enough that "Lady Dragonsnake" had to use
"her" feet on the second ropes as leverage to secure a
pinfall victory over Tsunami, but worse, after the
match ended, J. T. Wolfen charged to the ring and
revealed to everyone that "Lady Dragonsnake" was
actually Bushido-X in womens' clothes! (time 2:30,
ref. Scott Stryker)
6. J. T. Wolfen vs. Bushido-X
J. T. Wolfen had to have been fuming these past two
weeks since Bushido-X cheated his way to a DQ victory.
The HCW Kamehameha Heritage Champion took out all of
these frustrations on Bushido-X in this match. Bushido
barely had a chance to breathe, let along try to mount
an offense against Wolfen. Wolfen his his signature
moonsault on a prone Bushido and covered him. Bushido
didn't even attempt to kick out and accepted his
humiliation and loss in successive matches. (time
4:30, ref. Scott Stryker)

NWA NORTH AMERICAN TAG TEAM TITLES TO BE DEFENDED IN NORTH CAROLINA
(Chesterfield, VA) NWA-Virginia promoter, Rick O'Brien, announced today that the NWA North American Tag Team Championship will be defended next Saturday, May 27, in Raeford, NC for Ring Wars Carolina. While the opponents for the champions have yet to be determined, O'Brien is excited about seeing the North American titles being defended in different parts of the country.
"Even though UNOD has primarily been defending the titles here in NWA-Virginia, I think this is an excellent move for the champions, as it not only gives them exposure, but gets the NWA name out even more," O'Brien stated. He continued on to say, "The champions have a grueling schedule ahead of them. Not only do they have this defense next week; but in July,
the champs will be defending the titles in
NWA-MACW has sanctioned the title defense. "Anything we can do to help make the NWA name more prominent in the
Challenge and adversity are nothing new to the champions. When asked about the title defense, the cocky member of UNOD, Drake Tungsten, said, "Another title defense? So what!! We've proven time and time again that we are the best damn tag team in the Mid-Atlantic area, and now we're the best tag team in
