Funk's Corner - Dory Funk Jr. vs Antonio Inoki
Wrestling for the NWA World Championship, I faced Antonio Inoki on two occasions. Both matches took place in Japan and both lasted the one hour time limit.
The first took place on December 2, 1969 at the Osaka Prefectural Gym. In my corner was my father, Dory Funk Sr. Even though the match was scheduled for best two out of three falls, no falls were scored in the 60 minute time limit.
The second match against Mr. Inoki came almost a year later August 8, 1970 at Fukuoka Sports Center. In my corner for this match was my brother, Terry Funk. The importance in Japan of this match is that Inoki pinned the NWA World champion as I took the first fall after thirty minutes and Inoki fought back to win the second fall seven minutes later. With the match at a fall apiece, the one hour time limit once again ran out.
