WWE 24/7(TM) Signs Contract with Plala Networks for Distribution in Japan
Monday October 17, 10:46 am ET

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2005--World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. has signed a contract with Tokyo-based Plala Networks, Inc., to allow the Japanese Internet Service Provider to broadcast WWE 24/7, a subscription video on demand service, on its 4th Media broadband content distribution services through the end of 2005.

Plala is a subsidiary of NTT East Corporation, a major telecommunications company in Japan. In addition to being one of Japan's most popular ISPs, Plala is a content aggregator for the 4th Media service.

"We are extremely pleased to have reached an agreement with World Wrestling Entertainment® to offer WWE 24/7 content in the Japanese market," said Koji Bando, President of Plala Networks Inc. "With this agreement, we hope that this will be the first step towards building a long-term mutually beneficial relationship between both our companies. We strongly believe that offering WWE 24/7 through a new medium that is 4th Media holds strong appeal for WWE fans in Japan. Furthermore, we see it as our role to offer in Japan such valuable content that has, up until now, never been broadcast nor distributed through any other platforms in Japan."

WWE 24/7 is a significant part of the growth strategy for Plala and its affiliated ISPs to subscribe as many of their users as possible to the 4th Media service. Plala and its affiliated ISPs have a subscription base of several million users.

"WWE is a global franchise, and WWE 24/7 was conceived as salable concept that would scale worldwide for partners and fans," said Tom Barreca, Executive Vice President, WWE Enterprises. "Signing with a leader like Plala is a significant breakthrough for WWE 24/7 internationally, and we see a great future in contracting with other telephony and telecommunications providers around the globe."

"We are delighted to have started the global roll-out of our SVOD product WWE 24/7. We have a huge library of classic programming featuring some of the WWE's most famous names through the ages," commented Andrew Whitaker, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, WWE (Int'l Ltd). "This packaging of timeless WWE assets and our ability to deliver them to broadcasters as video on demand, pay per view, broadband or as simple television output gives us another way of allowing broadcasters to monetize our content and satisfy the passions of our millions of fans around the world."

Plala Networks is a member of the NTT East Group and runs Plala, an ISP with more than 1.5 million broadband subscribers. While consumer ISP services are its mainstay, the company is also expanding into solutions and network services for the corporate sector. Plala Networks' latest focus is on developing high value-added broadband services like IP phone and image distribution. For more information please visit www.plala.or.jp.
