MATTEL WWE DESIGN TEAM ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS 7/1/11! PART I

Into further detail!…

Hello everyone,

From the Mattel Design Team,

Below is the third set of Q+A responses for the last Week in June.

Over the last month or so we have tried to answer as many questions as we could as the responsible design team on the brand. We tried not to repeat ourselves or give inconsistent information as we analyzed the questions and made our responses. At this point we hope that you are comfortable that we are really trying to keep you in the loop with what is happening in the line and that we really are exposing you to as much inside information as the company will allow us to.

Obviously the biggest issue on the table right now is The Future of Legends. For those that are losing sleep over this please be assured that we will continue to sell Legends era figures. The strategy for how we will release legends era figures in the future will be disclosed officially by the company at SDCC. That’s all I can really tell you about that subject.

We have addressed product distribution issues again this time. As you will read further down, this is the last time we will attempt to answer your questions on this subject. We are designers and not responsible or even qualified to answer questions in this area. We can tell you why we made a product yellow but we can’t address why it never hit your TRU in Spokane.

Finally, this is the last Q+A we will have until after SDCC. When we do get back to another Q+A, please read through the previous threads and try not to ask the same questions if a definitive answer was already given.

It makes it a lot easier on all of us and it allows us to answer more first time questions.

Well, I hope you all have a great holiday ( sorry Brits :0) ) and if we don’t see you at SDCC, we will see you back here.

BK Brawler (Boss Bill)

Yes Absolutely

Is there a DM Edge in the works?

No

You spoke about how the next Elite CM Punk would have short hair, and the tattoo behind his ear, but will he have the chest tattoos, removable nexus armband, and the ''New Nexus'' shirt?

Very likely this is the version we will do.

There was a pre order list on an online store (WrestlingShop) that had Vickie Guerrero in Basic Series 12 but on Ringside Collectibles she's not in the line up. Was she removed?

She will not be in the basic 2012 lineup.

What was the hardest figure to make??

I can’t tell you yet but we are designing him currently.

What are the chances of making a Edge Exclusive?

There’s a good chance but there are no current plans.

Would it be hard for Mattel, if the width of the plates of titles were a bit thinner?

The plates have to be that size to retain their structural integrity.

Will we get a material for the belt strap, which will fit onto the figs perfectly (almost like its stuck on with glue) than the belt having a gap between the fig and the belt?

Due to the varying sizes of the figures and the plates passing through the belt material, a seamless fit would be difficult if not impossible to mass produce.

Will we ever get a ring which is in between the elite scale and basic ring sizes like around 15'' or something?

Not out of the question but not in 2011 plans

How frequent will we see belts for elite and basic after the target title boxed set is released?

We will continue to offer belts periodically throughout the WWE line.

Will there be a ring released for basics that doesn't make so much noise when you play?
Suggestion: stuff a dish towel or rag under the set. We specifically designed the set to make as much noise as possible. (We thought that was a good thing)

Will there be a price cut on figures being that they're so expensive?

Individual retailers may offer price cuts or sales. A wide reduction in prices would require lower production costs. I don’t know of any industry that is getting their products made for less these days.

Any plans for new, less ripped body molds?

Not at this point. Most of the current Superstars are in good shape. And we always try to portray them at their best. We have at least three body types in each size torso, that covers 90% of the roster.

which is the variant version of both drew mcintyre ( holding/wearing belt ) and ted dibiase ( green/purple ). everyone that ordered mcintyre online seemed to get him wearing the belt wheras the ones in shops are all of him holding the belt. we all have know clue which of the dibiases are the variant either and it seems theres as thread about it everyday, help us

There is no variant on the DiBiase. Both were made in equal amounts.

It is being worked on.

Who will the Divas Title be released with?

We can’t give everything away

Will you do a Q&A after San Diego Comic Con?

Most likely

How long does it take to make a single figure, so could someone like Sin Cara have a figure made to show at SDCC but not be released until say February of next year?

Sin Cara will not be ready to show at SDCC.

Again thanks for the free figure, absolutely tremendous! Thank you!
Your Welcome, just don’t sell it on E-Bay :o)

So many Q&As, running out of question to ask.

That’s our goal, answer everything we can.

Why are the shirts for the Elite figures so baggy and not hemmed? They look sloppy.

We are changing to a different type of fabric to alleviate this problem on future Elite figures

Thanx for answering my question about molded shirts in the basic line. Mattel said no. Why? A basic cena with a molded shirt would be perfect. You're producing essentially the same Cena in EVERY basic set that comes out anyway. Why not make him with a new shirt a few times? He has worn more then a dozen different ones. Right now I only own ONE basic Cena. I would collect EVERY Cena made with a different molded shirt

We only do basic in ring wrestling attire. It’s the only way to keep the costs at a reasonable level.

Mattel, firstly you are AWESOME! Here is my question: Could we ever see the ring posts of the 12 inch rings the right color, like Raw's are white, Smackdown's are silver, etc. for every ring you put out and how about some steel steps for them? Even mats for the outside of the rings?

I’d suggest you paint your ring post to match your Ring theme. We probably will always make them in black.

after Basic series 12, will the WWE Divas be making more appearances in sets there after, I really liked for awhile when there was one Diva per Basic set. also there has not been a diva in the Two packs since Beth and Santino. Will be Bellas eventually be released as singles or in a two pack

If we do the Bellas it would have to be in a two pack. The other Divas will be released according to how well they sell,,,,,, slowly.

thanks, keep up the great work

Hey guys your doing great with the figures!
Question 2: I notice that in the gold of goldust's Elite figure, or the great khalis Punjabi part of the pants, it seems to wear off very easily, are you guys aware of this and how do you plan to fix it?

This is the first time I have heard of this problem. We will look at ti.
Question 2: We saw the elimination chamber and TLC set at Toyfair, when will we see these sets be released?

2012

Will we ever see accessories like weapons or title belts packaged with basic figures?

No, all of our funds go into the figures. If we put accessories in Basic we would need to raise the price.

Also, will I ever see a Mattel figure of The Patriot (Del Wilkes)? He was my favorite Bone Crunching Action figure from another company back when I was a kid!

Not likely

Can we expect an Elite Miz with a red MITB briefcase and his customized wwe title or at least the same one that comes with Elite Sheamus?

Most likely

What is the reasoning behind having variants of some figures? Like Elite 4 John Morrison & Chris Jericho, Elite 8 Drew and Elite 10 Ted.

Some are running changes, others are split runs in order to create collector interest. Drew was a running change to him holding the belt to display the belt better. DiBiase was a spilt run to create  more collector interest in the figure.

Hi, I was wondering if you reached out to guys like Butch Reed and the estates of Dino Bravo and Hercules to get signed? I really feel like these are three of the guys who were a big part of the WWE in the 80s that we have not had figures made of. Thanks!

Not as of yet

I noticed on the Elite/Ringside Kane the boots are a glossy black, will we be seeing this glossiness more often with the other figures?

Possibly in the Elite line as it is an extra process.

1) From Mattel's standpoint, is the Defining Moments a successful line or is it a bust?

We are happy with its performance

2) Why did Entrance Greats get canned? I personally loved the line and the entrance music was a great feature.

We switched to Defining Moments due to collector feedback about the use of basic bodies on our highest priced figures.  In order to accomplish this we had to eliminate the entrance base and music.
