MATTEL WWE DESIGN TEAM ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS 7/1/11! PART II

Part II of Mattel’s answering session!…

Hello everyone,

From the Mattel Design Team,

Below is the third set of Q+A responses for the last Week in June.

Over the last month or so we have tried to answer as many questions as we could as the responsible design team on the brand. We tried not to repeat ourselves or give inconsistent information as we analyzed the questions and made our responses. At this point we hope that you are comfortable that we are really trying to keep you in the loop with what is happening in the line and that we really are exposing you to as much inside information as the company will allow us to.

Obviously the biggest issue on the table right now is The Future of Legends. For those that are losing sleep over this please be assured that we will continue to sell Legends era figures. The strategy for how we will release legends era figures in the future will be disclosed officially by the company at SDCC. That’s all I can really tell you about that subject.

We have addressed product distribution issues again this time. As you will read further down, this is the last time we will attempt to answer your questions on this subject. We are designers and not responsible or even qualified to answer questions in this area. We can tell you why we made a product yellow but we can’t address why it never hit your TRU in Spokane.

Finally, this is the last Q+A we will have until after SDCC. When we do get back to another Q+A, please read through the previous threads and try not to ask the same questions if a definitive answer was already given.

It makes it a lot easier on all of us and it allows us to answer more first time questions.

Well, I hope you all have a great holiday ( sorry Brits :0) ) and if we don’t see you at SDCC, we will see you back here.

BK Brawler (Boss Bill)

you said that it takes one year for a superstar to go from photos to figure, and usually based on TV Time. last Fall Tyler Reks ended up on both the Bragging Rights and Survivor series PPV's and was all over TV during October and November. will there be a chance we will see a Tyler Reks figure in the upcoming basic series coming out this fall?

Possibly

Do you have any interesting stories from working with the WWE superstars?

Bill – during a scanning session with Gentle Giant Mark Henry accused me of looking at him funny, which terrified me at the time, because if there is someone you should probably not look at funny it is the STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD! He admitted shortly afterward he was playing with me, but for a few moments I thought my life was over.

I figured I'll dig into the poetry bank this time around:

Armed with such passion, it's only befitting Mattel are Figure Kings.
With everything conquered, they decided to step in the WWE Ring.
They give us products that are great.
And, given the consistency, at a fantastic rate!
In closing, the praises of Mattel we shall continue to sing!

Very flattering. Thanks.

Just want to start by saying thank you for answering my question last time!

Is there any plan to redo the crotch mold used for most divas? It seems like the crotch mold you started using after basic 6 Kelly Kelly the leg movement at the hip has become very limited as to basic 5 Melina where her legs were as poseable as the male elite figures.

The Melina hips were specific to her so that she would be able to do the splits.

What are the chances of seeing a Trish Stratus in a "Heritage" series?

We would like to have her in our line eventually.

What are the odds of seeing an Elite Michael Cole in Wrestling gear with a cloth suit over it?
Very low

And i also wanna say thank you for taking time to answer our questions and showing that you care what we think.

Thanks for doing this, love the company!

1) If you could go back and re-do one figure from any past set, what figure would it be and why?

Bill- I would do Legends 2 Snuka barefoot in trunks. I wanted to do a Snuka figure that had never been done before but in the end I think I made the wrong call on that one.

In future savages will we see a new headscan?

We are working on one.
Will there be a honky tonk man

We want to include him in our line

Why are only 2 Elite figures of each line available in Germany?

We feel for you guys in Europe. The Distributors over there cherry pick the line and only take selective product they are sure will sell.

Will we see any Legends Shawn Michaels in his WrestleMania 12 attire, Survivor Series 1997 attire, Summerslam 1995 attire or Royal Rumble 1997 Attire?

We’d like to do all of those versions, but We have been asked not to release any legends info prior to SDCC.

Knowing we have Elite, Basic and Rumblers(amazing btw) style figures, Is there any plans of making a new line of figures? For example a Micro type or Galoob style. I know Jakks did this for LJN style figures.

Not at this time, (don’t forget Flex Force)

When is the next time we will see John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Randy Orton in the elite line?
Can we please see the Usos in the elite line?
Can we get an elite dashing cody rhodes PLEASE. It's really his biggest career move yet and best gimmick. Will his elite figure based on the Undashing Cody Rhodes have a removable mask? Jacket? Paper bags? knee brace?

Any future Elite Cody will be the ‘disfigured’  gimmick.

And a paper bag would be a cool accessory… The window on Dashing Cody for the Elite line has closed.

In the last Q&A, you answered a question about selling ringskirt/ropes in an accessrorie pack by saying: "Not at this time. We would really like to do accessory packs but they are very tough to convince the retailers to buy"

If retail stores like walmart, kmart, toys'r'us wont but them, why not sell them on online stores like Ringside Collectibles? I'm sure Ringside would buy them. We would REALLY love these accessories. PLEASE find a way to fit them in!

If you feel strongly about this, request them from Ringside. If they get enough interest, they will request the product from us.

Is Daniel Bryan a high possibility for a Elite figs? and Husky Harris is he still in plans or was he scraped?

Bryan will be in a future Elite lineup. Husky is not likely for now as he has been off TV for months.

Originally, it was stated that the Elite scaled Raw ring would also include a limited run of the Smackdown ropes/skirts. Ultimately it didn't come together, and it's already been said that as of right now no separate aprons will be released, so will we see an Elite Smackdown style ring within the next year?

It is unlikely

If and when Mic Foley re-signs with the WWE what are the chances of a faces of Foley 3 pack, has it been considered already or do you not think about it until he actually signs.

Too early to say on this one right now

First of all thank you for answering my questions mattel

1. The last q and a you said if a wrestler is on the current roster they won't have a legends figure, and I agree mostly, but does this mean we won't see undertaker or kane in legends until they retire?

No not under the Legends brand.

3. And with scott hall attending rehab paid for by the wwe , does that mean we may see a razor ramone fig?

No, that is an odd reason to expect a figure.

I always wondered this. For question purposes, let's say I'm a wrestler who has been chosen by Mattel for his first figure (i.e. Tatsu, Ryder, Daniel Bryan, etc.) Does mattel call the guy up and say... hey Wrestler X... congrats you're getting a figure made! Does the wrestler have any input into the figure? To follow up on that thought. Once the figure is made... do you send Wrestler X a figure of himself in the mail or does he have to buy it in the stores like everyone else? I've always wondered how that goes down. Also, has any wrestler contacted Mattel and said... hey! where's my figures?!

We usually don’t contact wrestlers with attire questions, mostly because we assume they have much more important things to do. We do follow the programming pretty closely and do notice if a wrestler wears a certain outfit more than others and will usually make outfit choices based on something like that.

I would like to start off by saying I think it's great that you take the time out to answer our questions. It's greatly appreciated by the community.

My Question is...

I know it's been asked and been answered for retail sales, but have you ever thought about doing online Diva Packs? Or maybe selling Online single Diva packs as exclusives only online? It would cater to the collectors and online shoppers and also possibly keep production costs for you guys low. I'm sure by looking at sales you could see how much or how little you could produce.

Divas sell well enough at retail in the amounts produced that we will be keeping them there for now.

Why did you use neon green tights for the Allstars Macho Man? Was the inspiration taken from a prior WWF video game?

It was a color we had not previously used on other Savage figures and thought it looked cool.

Thanks again for answering our questions.

Just wondering if you ever thought of doing something along the lines of taking a rumbler figure, making it larger with no articulation, maybe rotocast, and add some more details. Maybe as an net or matty store exclusive.

Hmmm, now there’s an idea!!!

Post by okcthunderontop on Jun 18, 2011, 6:02pm

Okay this is my question

how far off are we from seeing figures from wcw figures such as ddp, dean malenko, rey mysterio, and goldberg and what line lines could i expect them in and if not all of these figures then wich of these figures are you considering...also i was thinking for the pay per veiw series every now and then you could do a ppv from wcw such as fall brawl or halloween havoc and maybe even sould out are you considering that...cause if not thats an idea

If we included these figures it would be under a Legends brand. There is not going to be a separate brand for WCW, ECW or other wrestling companies that no longer operate.

Okay! My first time posting here, so I hope my questions get picked!

1) In the latest Q and A, you stated that if you are on the roster, you don't get a Legends figure. Come on! Some of the guys still on the roster are some of the most wanted, and would help bolster the line! American BA Undertaker (especially in his garb from the HHH/Rock Iron Man Match!), debut Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and DEFINATELY Masked Debut Kane. Will you please reconsider this stance?

Nope, WWE Rule

Thanks for your time....hope my questions are picked....and you know what? I hope my questions don't come across as harsh. I love your products, and prayed for years that someone decent would get the WWE (still F to me) to get the license. And you guys have exceded ALL expectations. I love thus far what has been done with the line. In short, thank you!

Thank you, but we promised we wouldn’t spoil the Comic-con announcements.

Any Chance Of Seeing T-Shirt Packs With Like 4 Figure T-Shirts For 10 bucks?

Not likely, accessory packs in general are rarely successful these days.

2. Will you be updating the following superstars with their new tattoos?

Does the WARRIOR have any exclusive figures like 1 of 5 being produced for his basement dwelling? any WARRIOR w/ new deco coming up this year @ retail? that dm figure should be in a museum.. but that L6 head scan is AWESOME ( SNARL ) always believe!

We are creating exclusives for Warrior.

I don't think the distribution issue has been clearly explained. Why has my Toys R Us had no WWE Mattel figures since Basic Series 5 and Elite Series 4, yet received the WWE All-Star 2 packs? It seems that everything the store receives is put on shelves immediately. Am I supposed to believe that the stockroom is filled with Elite Series 5,6,7 and 8 and Basic Series 6,7,8,9,and 10 and they are just not putting them out?

Bottom line, we need to know why so many stores are either taking so long to receive WWE Mattel figures, or are not receiving them at all. I refuse to believe that so many stores in so many states would be getting the figures from Mattel to their distribution warehouse and taking so long to get them to their stores. This is a Nation wide problem and everyone is experiencing it.

Mattel makes all of our figures in series order, and on a fairly routine schedule. Any hick-ups you are seeing at retail are happening through the supply chain, either due to a retailer skipping series for one reason or another, or inventory management at distribution and retail locations.

This will be the last time we address or attempt to answer this question. Boss Bill
