Wrestlingfigs.com Staff Member Brian ‘WOJC’ Dinan makes his writing debut reviewing this hot new Ringside Collectibles Exclusive Figure!
Many of you probably know me from the Wrestlingfigs.com Forums as "WOJC." I have spent seven years around the Wrestling Figure business, collecting, and covering various figure related events. Now I will be bringing you, the members of WF your news.
Ringside Collectibles has sent me a production sample of the new Tazz Classic Superstars Exclusive, and I will make my Columnist debut reviewing it for you all.
Packaging: Tazz is the first online exclusive to be featured in Classic Superstars packaging. He is listed as a part of 'Collectors Series #9' and features imagery from series 9 on the back of his card. A few notable changes have been made though: The word "LIMITED" is featured in gold text above Tazz's bubble, and it has an ECW sticker in the upper right hand corner on the back of its card. This leads me to believe that we could be seeing more ECW Branded exclusives in the future. ~ 10/10
Sculpt: Tazz is a hard character to capture, especially when using mass produced parts, as he is short, and has a unique body style. While Jakks didn't capture this perfectly, they did an excellent job with what they had. Some may not like the fact that Tazz is not in scale with the rest of their WWE action figures, but Jakks doesn't work in scale to begin with. Tazz features basic arms and legs, paired with the Jim Neidhardt torso, and the same Tazz scan we have seen since his debut in Rulers of the Ring Series 1. The Neidhardt torso works well for Tazz's dimensions, and I see no problem with the old head scan, as this is supposed to be a Classic figure. ~8.5/10
Accessories: Not much going on here as Tazz comes with his trademark black towel. I do have one gripe about the towel, as it should be raggy and tattered as featured in the prototype image, but thats another thing that goes along with mass production. I'm pleased Jakks included any type of towel, but accuracy would have made for a better figure. ~ 6.5/10
Paint Application: Here is a subject of much controversy on this figure. "He isn't orange enough!" "He's too orange!" Well, you'll be pleased to hear that neither of those claims are true. Tazz is as "orange" as he should be. Some past images have shown his skin tone to be too light, while others have shown it to be too dark. Trust me when I tell you that you will be pleased with the skin tone of this figure. That aside, Tazz features a black singlet with one of his trademark designs on the rear end. Jakks captured most of Tazz's tattoos, omitting one in particular(The Looney Tunes "Taz" character), which is understandable. His boots are highly detailed, featuring two tone orange and black, and while we are getting an old head scan, we are getting a top notch paint application on it. Jakks did a good job on the fading of his hair in particular. ~ 9/10
Overall: Amidst some minor controversy, and a shipment delay, the Tazz Classic Superstars figure will be available next month exclusively from Ringside Collectibles. Whatever you may think about this figure, the images surely speak for themselves. In my seven years around the Wrestling Figure hobby, I have seen quite a few Tazz figures, and this one takes the cake. This is the best Tazz figure ever made, and will make for a nice addition to your collection, and the Classic Superstars family. Whether you are a WWE or ECW fan, you will not be disappointed. ~9/10
