Dark Match: Sylvan beat Andrew Reichter
Michael Cole and JBL come out.
Finlay comes out with his leprechaun under a blanket and does a promo bragging about what he did to Batista and how we won't see Batista tonight. Lashley comes out and confronts Finlay. Teddy Long comes out and makes this the main event for Smackdown (nice planning for the evening, Teddy), and makes it a number one contender's match. Winner gets title shot at No Mercy. Finlay gets up in Lashley's face. Lashley shoves Finlay into the leprechaun, who attacks Finlay. Then Finlay decks the leprechaun! Finlay throws the leprechaun under the ring and the little guy was history the rest of the evening.
Regal asked Finlay backstage what happens if Finlay wins and has to face King Booker.
The Matt Hardy burial continued with Gregory Helms scoring the victory. A low kick caused the fall to happen. What must it be like for Matt to be a jobber on Smackdown when he brother is pushed to the moon on Raw? Matt Hardy gets a huge pop coming up, a true superstar's reaction. Gregory Helms doesn't get that much of a reaction. But Hardy is the job boy to make Helms look good? The continued de-push to Matt Hardy doesn't make any sense. Even if his work isn't what Vince and the agents want it to be, why bury a guy the fans are so behind?
In the back, Rey Mysterio and his son. Why isn't Dominick in school?
Jimmy Wane Yane does a promo talking about how Asian people talk funny. This is stupid.
The Miz beat Scotty 2 Hotty with a neckbreaker. Very good match.
Brian Kendrick (with Paul London) vs Kid Kash (with Jamie Noble) vs Idol Stevens (with Kasey James) ends with Kendrick pinning Kash. Pitbulls and Idol and KC argue.
King Booker promo with Finlay in the back.
Rey sits Dominick in front of a tv screen so the little guy can watch daddy's match with Ken Kennedy. Kennedy.
Boogie Man coming up. Yay.
OK, it's time for Mysterio vs Kennedy for the US Title. We see Vickie Guerrero and Chavo talking to Dominick. Kennedy beats Rey when Vickie and Chavo distract Rey by coming out to the stage with Dominick. After the match, Dominick runs into Rey's arms. Vickie looked like a cold hearted bitch. Good angle. Not about Eddie, either.
Vito pinned William Regal. Nothing special.
King Booker is in Teddy Long's office and they set up next week on the CW premiere King Booker vs Vito.
Sylvester Terkay shows he's no Kurt Angle when he beats someone in about 2 minutes, but it felt like 2 hours. Boring chants, and the match deserved it.
In the Finlay vs Lashley main event, King Booker and Sharmell come down to do commentary, and their servant William Regal was ringside. Finlay gets disqualified in a weird finish, so Lashley is number one contender. Booker attacks Lashley, but we see Batista come down with a metal rod, and he nails Finlay. Lashley spears King Booker. Exciting finish to Smackdown.
So now it's time for ECW. Tazz and Joey Styles come out.
Sabu and Sandman and Tommy Dreamer won via DQ over Test and Mike Knox and Matt Striker. Sandman is helped to the back early in the match. Test gets dq'ed when he pushes the ref into the ropes, which causes Sabu to fall onto his groin on the top rope. This is the stupidest, lamest excuse for a DQ. Not just for ECW, but this is just plain uninspired. Sandman returns to cane the heels, but Striker escapes.
King Booker and Queen Sharmell are Paul Heyman's guests of honor this evening.
Yes, Booker has the World Title belt with him. Maybe a trade with Smackdown for Big Show? Heyman introduces Booker and Sharmell to Christopher Anderson and Stevie Richards, who suck up to the King and Queen, but Balls Mahoney embarrasses Paul because he's a slob. Booker is great in this one.
Francine debuted in the corner of Balls Mahoney to counter Ariel as Balls took on Kevin Thorn. A great catfight. Thorn gets the pin on Balls, but this was a lot of fun.
Big moments backstage. Heyman introduces King Booker and Queen Sharmell to The FBI. Big bombshell here is that Trinity is back, and looking hot.Sharmell was disgusted by Trinity. But then Heyman introduces Booker to CM Punk. Booker says, "you are a punk?" and Punk corrects him and says, "I'm not a punk. It's my name." and then proceeds to tell Booker "I'm a straight edge. Don't drink. Don't smoke. I compete.." This was amazing. Really great.
Punk choked out Shannon Moore for the tap. Punk getting over.
Heyman is walking Booker around the back, and they run into Rob Van Dam. Believe it or not, classic promo. Great stuff. RVD challenges Booker, the Book accepts!
They played a couple of videos, so they were obviously stretching for time. I don't know if there was a production problem or what, but then Paul Heyman's ECW music hits, and Paul E. comes out with Basham Security Force. Heyman does a one man act here for close to 20 minutes. First, Heyman does something that "Lou E. Dangerously" aka "Sign Guy Dudley" wrote about online, which is milking just the announcement of his name. Heyman says, "My name is...." and then stops, acting pissed. He had the entire building going nuts interrupting him. This went on for 4 or 5 minutes and was hysterical. Then Heyman starts talking about King Booker. Heyman demands everyone to drink the kool-aid, and say "All Hail King Booker." When a section wouldn't do it, Heyman said they are all banned (invoking Bill Alfonso 1995) and wanted them to leave. Then Heyman said, "Or I'll personally slap every one of you individually worse than the Yankees bitch slapped the Red Sox" (invoking Bubba Ray Dudley tirades, 1998). This was great stuff. Heyman looked a couple of times to the inside barricades, and a guy on headset was giving him the signal to go longer. Heyman was having a blast. He toyed with the audience, pointed out Original ECW shirts, told those people that since "they" represented the original crowd, he's glad that version went bankrupt. Heyman kept pumping up RVD, but from a heel's perspective. Finally, Heyman's music hit, and he said "the hell with you" and left. He never burnt out the crowd. This was impressive. And boy, were we ready for RVD.
RVD came out to one of the biggest pops of the night. King Booker vs RVD, Extreme Rules as your ECW main event. This was a very good match. RVD looked awesome in this match.
Old school ECW style match, pacing, spots, and stiffness. RVD hit the 5 Star, but Hardcore Holly ran in and destroyed RVD with a chair. Booker gets the pin with the scissor kick.
Then, because you can't get enough King Booker, we have a dark match of Booker and Finlay against Lashley and Batista. Out of nowhere, Lashley spears Booker and pins him. The heels were getting heat on Lashley, and he just turned it around for the pin. This concluded your four hour show, with Lashley being positioned to be Smackdown's biggest star.
All in all, this taping went too long. However, King Booker and Paul Heyman were the MVP's of the night, no disrespect to Montavious. ECW needs it's own taping. Smackdown does, too, because the ECW fans who come don't get into the whole Smackdown scene. I am glad I went. A little shorter next time would be nice.
