Extreme Championship Wrestling is back in the ring and on Sci Fi Channel.
World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. officially launched ECW as a brand extension to its RAW and SmackDown franchises.
And Sci Fi announced that it will start airing one-hour episodes of a new ECW live show, set to debut June 13 at 10 p.m. (EST).
WWE originally acquired the ECW assets in 2003. It has released three ECW DVDs, produced an ECW pay-per-view event in June 2005 and scheduled another ECW PPV event for June 11.
WWE said it will produce, market and promote a full line of ECW products, including television programs, PPV events, live events and licensed consumer goods.
“After keeping the ECW concept alive and creating an enormous cult-like following for all things ECW from DVD's to PPV [events] to books, we feel that now the time is right to officially launch ECW as its own stand-alone franchise," WWE chairman Vince McMahon said in a prepared statement.

Boro wrestling fans scream for stars at Flushing event
Jack "Sabbott" Balian fights dirty
When a snarling beast of a man twice his size was stalking him around the turnbuckles, Jack held up his hands in surrender. The man slowed his step for an instant, as if to gloat at his own dominance, and Jack poked him in the eye.

It was one of many humorous moments that spurred a crowd of 600 screaming fans on to even greater hysteria Friday night at Holy Cross High School during the school's first showing of Wrestling Superstars Unleashed, a show promoted by Balian, the owner of Wrestling Universe at 12-60 150th St. in Whitestone

"That was more for fun," Balian said of his guest appearance during the night's wrestling extravaganza. "My match was more of a comedy thing."

The night featured matches between Extreme Championship Wrestling stars straight out of World Wrestling Entertainment, the program that packs stadiums across the country.

Fans came to see big name stars like Rhino, Raven and Steve Corino face off in all-out brawls that more often than not spilled out onto the gymnasium floor when a combatant would be thrown over the ropes.

"It was really cool," said a wide-eyed Sebastian Nunec, 10, of Flushing, as he paraded around the auditorium with an autographed picture of Raven after the show. "I got almost all their autographs."

Not to be outdone, many local independent wrestlers also made appearances, including the crowd favorite, Queens' own Xavier, a ripple-chested wrestler who seemingly had the entire audience screaming out in glee as he made his entrance into the ring, crossing their forearms to form an X, his signature greeting.

"I lost my voice," said John Andrade, 16, of Jamaica. "I was screaming. That was really fun."

The show kicked off at 6:30 p.m. and fans stuck around until midnight, chatting with the wrestlers who accommodated their fans with autographs, pictures and small talk after the matches, despite the fact that those same fans may have been screaming "You suck!" moments before when they were in the ring.

While mostly a night of pure testosterone-driven wrestling mania there were some ladies in the house, including one elderly woman who stopped by to watch her favorite stars.

"I love it," she said. "I watch it all the time."

Balian said he is in the process of trying to set up another event at Holy Cross. Fans can keep tabs on
