DEVON 'CROWBAR' STORM AND ACE DARLING TO HAVE FIRST SINGLES MATCH IN NEARLY TEN YEARS AT ISPW SLAMOWEEN ON 10/24 IN FREEHOLD, NJ
True friendship is like sound health, the value of it is seldom known until it is lost. A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. A true friend is someone who knows there's something wrong even when you have the biggest smile on your face. Friends are those rare people who ask how you are and then actually wait to hear the answer. When it hurts to look back, and you're scared to look ahead, you can look beside you and your best friend will be there.
With that being said, Crowbar goes one on one with best friend "Mr. Main Event" Ace Darling for the first time in nearly ten years on Saturday night, October 24th in Freehold, NJ at the ISPW Arena when ISPW presents SLAMOWEEN.
Darling, who retired from professional wrestling last fall, made a surprise return at the last ISPW event on August 22nd and defeated former ECW Tag Team Champion Danny Doring. Darling, a former five-time ISPW World Heavyweight Champion, is excited about returning to the ring after some much needed time off.
"I came back to the ISPW because I feel I still have something to prove" Darling said. "When I left wrestling a year ago I was fat, I was depressed, and mentally I needed a break. Today I am in shape and mentally focused to prove that I am simply put, still the best! Crowbar is my best friend and my old partner. I can't think of a better test than facing him. Lets get it on! It's going to be hot!"
Even so, Darling is still surprised that his best friend Crowbar has challenged him to a match. Everyone is. For the last several months in ISPW, there has been someone in Crowbar's head talking to him and ordering him to do certain things that he actually doesn't want to do. Crowbar simply refers to this mystery person as "Him" when making mention of him.
When Crowbar was asked to comment on why he would challenge his best friend to a match at SLAMOWEEN, he said "He told me to do it. He told me to take Ace Darling out of the picture before he paints himself back into it. He told me Darling was a former five-time ISPW World Heavyweight Champion. He told me to do this. I don't want to do this. Ace is my best friend. I don't want to do this. I have to do this. I don't want to do this. He tells me I have to."
Crowbar and Darling have a long history with each other over the last decade plus in professional wrestling. They have been both tag team partners and opponents. The two in the mid 90's had a short run in World Championship Wrestling as a tag team called "The Extremists" and had a pair of matches on WCW Nitro against Scott Hall & Kevin Nash. Speaking of WCW, their last match against each other was a dark match before WCW Nitro on Valentine's Day of 2000 at the Nassau Coliseum.
Needless to say, the ISPW locker room is buzzing about this huge upcoming match between Crowbar and Ace Darling.
ISPW World Heavyweight Champion Judas Young is really looking forward to this match. "Though Devon Storm made his way through ECW and mastered his craft as Crowbar in WCW, Ace Darling has been a household name on the independent scene" Young said. "Though brief stints in both the WWF and WCW, Darling didn't quite break out as Devon did, on a national level, but on the indies, he surpassed that of what Mr. Storm did, in my belief. That doesn't discredit Devon in any way, shape, or form. He has tagged with the "Nature Boy's" son and held a belt of great recognition for a company during the height of the Monday Night Wars! Darling, on the other hand, opened eyes on the independent circuit, proving what the epitome of a true professional athlete is and should be. Holding various titles and accolades, Darling not only impressed, but left imprints of the blood, sweat, and tears that he trained so hard to attain, on canvas' up and down the East Coast!"
The current ISPW World Champion went on to say "Combine the two accomplishments these wrestlers have sought after, think about what they have destined to become as they nurtured themselves to who they are today, and more importantly, compare the love and passion they have for our art, industry, and selfless creativity! Let the words craftsmanship, ingenuity, mastery, and skill define exactly what the two of these individuals describe, not only, what has been plied to our craft, but help in passing on to the younger generation their mastery of what they've experienced and been taught through their journeys on the road of said destiny."
Young actually credits Crowbar and Darling for the progress in his work over the years. "I am one of those younger wrestlers I speak of when mentioning the teachings from these two spectacular athletes. I have been in the ring with each man on numerous occasions. It is from such matches, that during my upstart in our sport, I personally have been on the receiving end of great knowledge, and not only found myself more enlightened after each encounter than before I entered the squared circle with these veterans, but grateful that I gradually became just like one of them, in different ways."
"To put it clearly, these guys put me on the map" Young said. Aside from what I have ventured out and learned on my own by traveling and picking the brains of seasoned performers over my course of time in wrestling, it's no easier for me to point the finger at Devon and Ace as guys I have groomed myself, and aspired to be like, several years later. Sure I have Danny Inferno, Joey Matthews, Les Thatcher, Gino Caruso, and most importantly, Rocco Rock, who have shared much insight into our trade with me, but Devon and Ace have always been hands on and willing to make that extra step and go the extra mile to assure that we not only have fun before a crowd, but that we do business for the show, not ourselves!"
ISPW promoter Tommy Fierro was really excited when Darling decided to return to the ring. "Ever since I decided to return with ISPW earlier this year, I have been trying to get Ace to come out of retirement. There is so much history there with him and ISPW, as he's a former five-time ISPW World Heavyweight Champion. He is without question one of the greatest performers to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots. It was an honor to be able to induct him as the first person into the ISPW Hall of Fame at our return show back in April. It's even a bigger honor that he thought enough of both me and ISPW to come out of retirement and want to work again."
Fierro thinks the world of Crowbar as well. "I knew from the second I first saw Devon Storm perform live that he was going to be someone in the wrestling business" Tommy said. "I was a huge supporter of his when he first broke into the wrestling business and I am so proud to see he has made a name for himself. For anyone that hasn't checked out ISPW yet since it's return, Crowbar is on top of his game. This is the best he's looked in years. I can tell he's excited about performing again and that's a huge bonus to ISPW and it's fans."
While Chase Del Monte looks to capture the ISPW Tri-State Championship in a Fatal Four Way at SLAMOWEEN on October 24th in Freehold, he's also very much looking forward to this huge match pitting Crowbar against Darling. "I tagged up with Ace for six months and then spent more than a year battling him inside the ring. So I know first hand just how crafty and cagey the Indy Icon is. Standing across the ring from him on October 24th will be his best friend Crowbar, the one man who quite possibly knows Ace Darling better than he knows himself. The Crowbar that has been wandering around ISPW talking to himself however certainly doesn't seem to be the same man lately so there really is no telling what he might do or exactly what he is capable of. If I were forced to guess, I would have to side with Ace Darling. He's fresh off retirement and is in the best shape of his life.... plus I'd never hear the end of it if I chose Crowbar."
Former ISPW World Heavyweight Champion Danny Inferno has been in the ring with both of these performers probably more so than anyone else in ISPW. "I know both of these guys very well" Inferno said. "I have wrestled both for and tagged along side Ace. I wrestled them both in Super 8 tournaments. I don't usually get excited about other people's matches, but I can say this. Ten years ago these two guys brought some of the best matches I have ever seen to the east coast indie scene. They both revolutionized light heavyweight wrestling as we know it in this area. Ace is one of the smoothest technicians I've ever wrestled. Crowbar is unpredictable but knows what he's doing. Ten years later; these two guys are still in great shape and at the top of their game. I'm excited to see what happens. I cannot even begin to predict a winner. I don't think we're seeing the "Ace vs. Devon" of old. It's 2009. The stakes are a lot higher. And neither man wants to be shown up. It's more about pride on the line now then just wrestling innovative, high flying wrestling matches to get your name out there. Both guys have been all over the globe as two of the best in our game. Your guess is as good as mine. I'm looking forward to watching and seeing what unfolds."
Fierro is very excited to be able to promote the first one on one meeting between these two independent icons in nearly ten years. "Anyone that is an old school independent wrestling fan remembers the classic matches Devon Storm and Ace Darling had up and down the East Coast in the 90's. Fast forward to 2009 and this being their first match against each other in ten years, this match has that "special feel" to it that many matches on today's independent shows are missing. I am excited about this one. Simply put, this is going to tear the house down at SLAMOWEEN on October 24th at the ISPW Arena in Freehold, NJ."
"I know that Ace and Crowbar have been friends in and out of the ring for over a decade" said Flash. "I really think Ace and Crowbar will push each other to the limit and I'm not sure who has the advantage here. I really believe when both men face each other at the ISPW Arena on October 24th, it will be nothing short of a classic!"
The General Manager of ISPW, "Mr. Personality" Nicholas Nice issued an official statement concerning this upcoming epic match for SLAMOWEEN. "There is so much to say about Ace Darling and Crowbar. I have looked up to the both of them since I began in this wacky world of wrestling and continue to look to them both for advice today. It was a sad day when Ace threw in the towel and called it a career, but I for one was thrilled to see him return one more time for one last run. They both are the type of guys who can go in the ring and put on a show better than anyone else in the locker room. They both captivate the crowd and tell a story so good that they even can fool the boys. I look forward to the clinic they will put on at SLAMOWEEN and look forward to them re-igniting there once very strong feud on the indie scene."
"The last few months I have been promoting how fans should Experience The Difference of ISPW" Fierro went on to say. "It's not just a line to put on a shirt to sell, it's a total shoot. I have promoted hundreds of events over the last sixteen years and have my own style of how I run shows. I'd like to think it's unique and very different from the rest. If it was another promotion doing Crowbar vs. Ace Darling, chances are it would just be slapped onto a poster and that would be it. Not with me. To me, this match is very special and should be treated as such. Like I said, I have promoted hundreds of events in my day, but this match is seriously on the top of my list of matches I'm most excited to promote."
This is only one of several big matches taking place at SLAMOWEEN on October 24th when ISPW returns to the ISPW Arena, located at 323A Fairfield Road in Freehold, NJ.
