NWS INAUGUARL SHOW IN WOODBRIDGE, NJ
National Wrestling Superstars put on their inaugural event of 2006 at the Woodbridge Elks Lodge on Friday night, January 20th and from where I saw, there were people standing at the side of building because there were no seats to be found.
Havoc, accompanied to ringside by Danny DeManto def Jersey Jerry D. After the match, Demanto and Havoc double-teamed Jerry until Balls Mahoney stormed to ringside and cleared the ring. He demanded a match against DeManto. The only way promoters would do this is if Balls put up his NWS Hardcore title. Balls said he would do anything to get his hands on Demanto and the match was signed for later in the show.
Dirtbag Dan Petit, who has gotten some sort of following with fans carrying Dirtbag signs took on Canada's J.T. Highlander. Much like other promotions who put wrestlers who don't like each other in a match, NWS had these two square off and the hostility was obvious, as both Petit and Highlander tried to prove their superiority. The ending came when both wrestlers hit referee James Storm, causing a double disqualification.
The next bout was a grudge match, set up in Long Branch as Mr. Motion Shane Taylor, managed by Royce Profit, took on America's hero, The Patriot. After nearly 10 minutes of ranting by Profit, The Patriot gathered a group of youngsters from around the building and had then chant "USA, USA", which brought the funniest line from Profit in a long time when he said "do we look like we're from Iraq? We're both from the United States". Once the match got started, The Patriot gave both Profit and Motion a beating, even showing the crowd Profit's best side (or the full moon effect, as Patriot pulled Profit's pants off). After nearly 12 minutes, Patriot gave Motion a hip toss over the top rope. When he went to suplex him back in the ring, Profit grabbed The Patriot's foot, allowing Motion to crash on top of him. Profit held The Patriot's foot while the referee made a 1-2-3 count, giving the win to Mr. Motion Shane Taylor. Patriot went to commissioner Gino Moore and said he was cheated. Moore said there was nothing he could do since the referee's decision is final, but set up a rematch for the February 11th show in Edison.
Next saw wrestling legend, Kevin Sullivan take on former ECW wrestler The Equalizer. Many fans commented on how great Sullivan looked, but were concerned about the size difference as Equalizer had nearly a foot over Sullivan. That didn't matter because what Sullivan lacks in height, he has in attitude and took The Equalizer to town with a vicious attack that had the big man reeling. Whenever The Equalizer would come back, Sullivan would use the tactics that made him famous all over the world to regain the advantage. Equalizer had Sullivan in a giant suplex (he held Sullivan in the air for well over a minute), then came crashing down to the mat. Sullivan ran to the outside and the referee tried pulling Equalizer back into the ring. As this was happening, Sullivan grabbed a chair and smashed it into Equalizers head and opening him up. Referee Kenny Edwards awarded the match to The Equalizer by disqualification. Sullivan continued beating on The Equalizer until Balls Mahoney ran into the ring for the save.
After intermission, fans were treated to a wrestling match that saw the return of Rob Eckos to the NWS rings. Eckos, fresh off two WWE television appearances teamed up with Corvis Fear against NWS Jersey Shore champion Gavin Quest and Nicky Oceans. Lots of high flying action, but it seemed that the four were more interested in doing singles matches against each other as Quest and Fear kept trying to get at each other as did Oceans and Eckos. Lots of high flying action that had fans on the cheering throughout the nearly 15 minute match. At the end, Oceans hit Eckos with a cross-body off the top rope, but Eckos rolled through, grabbed the tights and scored the win. All this time, Quest and Fear are fighting outside the ring and into the back. Oceans grabbed the mic and asked Commissioner Moore about the tights, but Oceans was told the decision is final. Eckos started making fun of Oceans and Moore told both wrestlers he had a surprise for them. He had an open contract and they would meet one more time, on March 24th in Old Bridge, NJ. If Oceans loses, he must accept the defeat and never wrestle Eckos again. Moore told Eckos that he has a special stipulation in mind for him in case he loses and that stipulation will be announced just before the match on the 24th.
NWS RESULTS FROM WOODBRIDGE.NJ
The main event saw NWS hardcore champion Balls Mahoney defend his title against nemesis Danny DeManto. Lots of "Oh Fat" chants for DeManto (although he said it was "Oh Phat" because he is cool). Referee Kenny Edwards told both wrestlers that this was a no disqualification match, that the only way either wrestler could win was to go through a table, that falls did not count. With that, Balls showed the crowd a fork he had hidden in his boot to use against DeManto and the match turned into an all-out brawl, both in and out of the ring. At the end, Balls had DeManto set up on the table and jumped off the 2nd turnbuckle onto DeManto for the win. As he was celebrating, Kevin Sullivan hit the ring and attacked Mahoney with a 2 foot long screw driver, driving it into the head, back and chest of Mahoney. Mahoney's manager, The Dark Angel ran to the locker room area and all the wrestlers from the show ran to separate the two, with the heals letting Sullivan go to attack Mahoney. Finally, The Equalizer came from behind the curtain and Sullivan ran quickly out of the ring.
Commissioner Moore announced to the crowd that the next NWS event, which will be held on Saturday in Manville, would now have a main event steel cage match pitting Kevin Sullivan against Balls Mahoney for the NWS Hardcore title.
