Dan McGuire Climbs to the Top at 9th Annual IWF Reckless Abandon:
Latin Revolution Captures Tag Titles; Shawn Donavan Quits Ross Family!

(West Paterson, NJ)- New Heavyweight and Tag Team Champions were crowned at the Independent Wrestling Federation's Reckless Abandon Weekend ninth-annual anniversary events on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 at IWF Centre, West Paterson, NJ.  Here is a complete recap of the historic extravaganza.

April 22nd featured a Ladder Match for the IWF Heavyweight Title as Dangerous Dan McGuire defied the odds and upset four-time champion Kevin Knight.  With Commissioner Rich Ross as referee, his continual involvement eventually backfired when he was blasted by Knight with the ladder.  McGuire then drop-kicked the ladder into Knight sending him out of the ring enabling Dan to climb up and grab the gold.  Knight held the gold for six months since October 2005, while McGuire, a former three-time Junior Champion, becomes the youngest champion in IWF history.

Rich Ross was so confident he managed the greatest team in wrestling that three-time IWF Tag Champions “Simply Stellar” Shawn Donavan and Travis Blake issued an open challenge.  Tony Torres and Antonio Rivera of Latin Revolution more than accepted the invitation as they captured the titles for a second time after Torres hammered Donavan in the back of the neck with his flagpole while the referee was tied up with Blake.  Ross was furious at his men and took his frustrations out on Shawn in a post match tirade.  The loss ends Simply Stellar's six-month reign.

In a Lumberjack Match to settle their score finally, IWF American Champion Justin Corino retained the title against former champion Outlaw Shane O'Brien of The Ross Family.  Blake's over-eagerness at ringside to assist his fellow family member got the best of him yet again as his interference cost SOB his shot to regain the belt.  Corino took the title from the roughneck three months ago at Winter Warfare and this win extends his reign.  Afterwards, Ross questioned his men as to what happened and Blake blamed the blunder on Donavan.

In the Tag Team Flag Match, Aaron Stride and Biggie Biggs of Hott n' Heavy represented the USA against the Puerto Rican duo of Tony Torres and Antonio Rivera of Latin Revolution.  Hott n' Heavy was in control early until a miscommunication saw Biggs club Stride with an inadvertent forearm.  Stride, with his chin and ego bruised, refused to tag in the remainder of the bout as Biggs fell victim to brutal double-team tactics allowing Latin Revolution to get the win and wave their flag.

Stride would come back to ringside and explain to the fans that he heard rumors that Biggs was indeed in negotiations to join The Ross Family and apparently, the forearm he received was anything but accidental.  Aaron stated he would provide proof his partner is on the verge of leaving Hott n' Heavy to join the commissioners stable.

IWF Junior Champion Nick Sabre successfully defended his crown against former champion Tommy Trouble.  Last month in a Fatal-Four-Way, Sabre eliminated the returning Trouble and afterwards Tommy shook Sabre's hand, and then clotheslined his friend out of frustration.  At Reckless Abandon, Nick gained a measure of revenge when he reversed a rolling cradle applied by Trouble into a pinning combination to keep his two-month reign intact.

In a grudge match, the 350-pound mastodon Franciz scored a hard fought victory over Chris Steeler after executing a Samoan-Drop.  Last month as Franciz grew frustrated with not being able to put away Steeler, he grabbed a chair.  Steeler managed to grab it from the big man, and blasted him in the head prompting a disqualification as Franciz collapsed to the mat.  At Reckless Abandon, Steeler slugged it out with the big man, but Franciz' strength and size advantage was too much for Chris to overcome.

In addition, the up-and-coming tandem of Burnin' Mike Durnin and Steve Camacho united to beat the unusual combination of Radical Robby Morrison and Lord Jasin Karloff in tag team action.

Reckless Abandon day two on April 23rd saw an Eight-Man Tag Team Challenge issued by The Ross Family as Kevin Knight, Shawn Donavan, Travis Blake and Shane O'Brien battled new Champion Dan McGuire, BoneCrusher Fred Sampson, American Champion Justin Corino and Junior Champ Nick Sabre.  When the dust settled, another miscue between Donavan and Blake cost their team as McGuire forced Blake to tap-out from a crossface.  Ross berated Donavan, who would take no more verbal abuse from the commish and quit The Family.  Donavan was then jumped by the remaining members.

Earlier in the event, Heavyweight Champion Dan McGuire defeated Travis Blake by disqualification when Rich Ross pulled the referee out of the ring after McGuire hit the super-kick.  In a handicap match to prepare for McGuire next month, Kevin Knight and Commissioner Rich Ross defeated Super Ninja when Ross scored the pin.

In a six-man tag, Shane O'Brien, Franciz and Tommy Trouble upended American Champion Justin Corino, Junior Champ Nick Sabre and Chris Steeler when Franciz pinned Corino with an Avalanche Splash off the second rope.

Non-title tag action saw Burnin’ Mike Durnin and Steve Camacho shock everyone by upsetting Tag Team Champions Tony Torres and Antonio Rivera.

Biggie Biggs defeated Jasin Karloff in a match that saw Rich Ross appear at ringside with a briefcase apparently in Biggie's corner.  Aaron Stride emerged to question Biggs as to why the corrupt commish was in his corner.  Later, Stride saw singles action and beat Steve Off.

In addition, Shawn Donavan scored an impressive victory against Radical Robby Morrison.  For more IWF information visit
