LANCE HOYT MNM INTERVIEW RECAP
- 01/14/2007 (1:30:38 am)
- Press Release
Reaction to The Coach’s Shoot…..
Former two-time NWA World Tag Team Champion, Lance Hoyt, was the specialguest on this past week's edition (1/8/07) of Monday Night Mayhem (w/The Big
Mosh & Blade), which can be heard in streaming audio every week (and live at
9PM ET/8PM CT every Monday night) exclusively on The Monday Night Mayhem
Radio Network (www.MondayNightMayhem.com, www.ObsessedWithWrestling.com,
www.AllWNYRadio.com, & www.AudioWrestling.com -- your official home of "The
Spring Break Incident" Video-On-Demand, featuring former WWE Diva, Stacy
Keibler).
The interview with Lance is now available to hear for FREE in Real Audio!
Here are some of the highlights from the interview conducted by The Big Mosh
& Blade (courtesy: Mayhem listener, PWUSandman41):
=============================================================
While Jeff Hardy was in the process of pinning Kenny Dykstra this past
Monday night, Lance began his second interview on The Mayhem. Mosh jokingly
started things off by asking if Hoyt "could give a rat's @ss if Jeff Hardy
was the WWE Intercontinental Champion in the WWE" or not? Lance said that he
is proud of him & his accomplishments since switching feds, but he has to
focus on himself & his company -- TNA.
Mosh & The Angry Hero asked for Lance's personal assessment on Total Nonstop
Action going into this new year: Hoyt said that the company is doing great,
and that TNA is doing as good/or better than most of the shows on Spike TV.
Lance went on, by saying that TNA survived for five years, when most people
didn’t think that they could stay open that long.
There has been some internet speculation over the past few months about how
some wrestlers in TNA have not been happy with their situations, most
notable BG James & Lance's current partner, Ron "The Truth" Killings. Lance
was more than glad to clear up those rumors: "As far as BG & Killings
quitting, I have not heard anything about that." Hoyt put over the both of
them as two of his friends in the company, as well as being nice guys in the
locker room. Hoyt also wished to add that sometimes people freak out about
change, but as those things tend to clear up, everyone tends to be fine.
The Big Mosh changed subjects & moved on to discussing the effects of Triple
H's torn quad tendon, not only on the WWE, but the current VKM angle in TNA:
Hoyt did not hear of "The Game" being injured (as of the time the interview
was conducted) "That’s horrible, and as far as any angle is concerned,
whether it be DX vs. Randy Orton/Edge or VKM vs. VKM, people want to see a
feud.” He also added that the Voodoo Kin Mafia angle is similar to the "WWE
vs. WCW" feud from the late '90's. It is good for everyone involved, and the
fans seem to enjoy it.
The Angry Hero asked Lance if TNA would go so far as to have any of their
stars go to a WWE event (televised or non-televised), sit in the front row,
& not do anything -- would that make sense or go to far? Hoyt said it is not
going too far, since they have been showing up at some of the house shows.
Personally, he has nothing to do with it, so he cannot speak on behalf of
anyone else in the company.
Blade & Mosh stayed on the topic of Triple H, and asked Lance that if DX
were to come to Universal Studios/The Impact Zone (by chance), and just sit
down, how would he react? Lance said that they have helped him out in the
early years of his independent career, and he would show nothing but respect
-- but if they did show up in The Impact Zone that “it would be nothing but
a war.”
Another internet rumor that has been swirling is that of the majority of the
TNA wrestlers having to now pay for their own rental cars & hotel rooms.
Mosh posed the question of how this has affected Lance & the roster, and
will continue to affect them in the months ahead: “It's a change. When we
were informed about the situation, some of the guys were a little off-guard,
but when I first started with TNA, we paid for our own hotels. When we
started to go from Nashville to Orlando, we would pay for our own hotels as
well, so its not something that we haven’t already done before, but its
something we are going back to.” He also said that since it hasn’t been done
in a while, that it’s a shock to some of the wrestlers.
Mosh asked about Jonathan Coachman bashing on TNA at the recent WWE New
Year’s Revolution press conference (as an audience/reader refresher of the
remark: "TNA is inferior, and you guys wouldn’t pay a dime to see TNA.”).
Hoyt said that he didn’t hear it or know about it, and the WWE probably
tried not to acknowledge it by editing it out of their video. He explained
that TNA is a threat to World Wrestling Entertainment, in addition to
drawing good numbers for Impact on Spike TV. With all of the talk going
around on TNA & so much wrestling on television now, it's great for the
fans, because now they have a choice of what they want to watch. Being
wrestling is on almost every day of the week, they win either way, simply
because they get to pick & choose what they want to watch. Lance also wished
to add that if no one even considers TNA a threat that it’s an “ill
thought-out statement.”
His thoughts on Konnan’s kidney surgery/recent health issues: Hoyt says that
"it’s a crazy thing, and it’s something that happened when you never
expected it." Hoyt went on to say that that he does believe in God & Christ,
and that he sends his prayers out to Konnan. "Konnan has done a lot for this
business, and this is the chance for everyone to give back to him." He also
expects the guys in the locker room to make some donations and/or setting up
some possible benefit shows in the weeks ahead." The Mayhem also wishes to
extend its best wishes & a speedy recovery to the "K-Dawg."
Lance does hope to get a "run at the strap" in the new year, and does expect
some title shots. "Abyss is one count away from losing the gold to Lance
Hoyt." He is personally rooting for Sting at the Final Resolution
Pay-Per-View, because both Christian Cage & Abyss have so many distractions.
More goodness is included in this 40+ minute interview with Lance including:
his takes on the new Wrestling Society X MTV series & if he sees that as
competition for TNA, whether he thinks Kevin Nash has been a positive or
negative effect on the company & the X-Division, Sting's new look, if sees
himself following in the footsteps of Tazz, JBL, & Jerry "The King" Lawler,
and becoming a color commentator after his career is finished, & the rest of
Lance's predictions for this Sunday night's Final Resolution PPV (his match
vs. Chase Stevens & who him & Killings want to face for the NWA World Tag
Team Titles: Team 3-D or The LAX).
