and PHOTOS…….
The wait is over. The Macho Madness DVD has finally arrived. I was fortunate enough to obtain a copy a few weeks prior to the June 9 release date and I've watched the set several times over the past few weeks. The DVD set starts out with a brief history lesson on Randy Savage as well as his father. Matt Striker and Maria host, and it is obvious from the onslaught that Matt seems to be a true fan of Randy Savage's. Maria appears to be going through the motions and reading off a script throughout the duration of this 3 DVD set.
This set features a great collection of rare matches including Macho Man vs Shawn Michaels, which was also Miss Elizabeth's final World Wrestling Federation appearance. Randy's MSG debut match against Rick McGraw opens up the DVD, followed by legendary bouts with Ricky Steamboat, Hulk Hogan, Bruno Sammartino, and Ric Flair. Every era of Savage's career is focused on from his heel debut through the "Macho King" and of course, his final run in WCW. These matches have been restored to the highest quality, and the WWE did a decent job overdubbing the music on this set when and where deemed neccesary.
Before each match a brief storyline recap with highlights is given with Matt Striker and unfortunately, Maria as well. This is one of my few complaints with this set. I would have loved to see more interviews and vignettes leading up to the matches as opposed to Maria's babbling about pretty much nothing. Let the videos do the talking. Many interviews can be found in the special features area of each DVD, and they do not disappoint either. The wedding, Elizabeth's debut, the over-the-top Macho King era interviews are all shown in all their glory. Aside from Randy Savage, two very important women who are no longer with us are also given proper acknowledgement in this collection: Miss Elizabeth and Sensational "Queen" Sherri. Some of their greatest moments with Randy are captured on Macho Madness! Overall I would rate this a 9 our of 10. My only gripes are too much Maria, and some segments/special features being heavily edited/cut.
Will the WWE EVER release the wedding reception in its entirety on DVD?
