Day Two at New York Comic Con included even more wrestling stars.
I started my day with Tony Schiavone and Dirk Manning, who collaborated on “Butts in Seats: The Tony Schiavone Story,” an awesome graphic novel. I talked to Tony a bit about wrestling, but also his work announcing baseball. There is a Tony Schiavone bobblehead, too.
Manning is the perfect choice for this book. A talented creator, he knows wrestling. We’ve been talking wrestling (and ice cream) for years at comic cons.
All Elite Wrestling had several stars, but time constraints limited me to just meeting Kris Statlander. She was fantastic. She apologized for the mask (completely understandable) and nobody minded, because she was so nice.
Then I went back to Michael Kingston’s Headlocked Comic booth to meet the crew from Major Wrestling Figure podcast. Matt Cardona, Brian Myers and Mark Sterling had a huge line, but I hit there early. They were all super cool, signing and posing.
Lastly, I talked to Danhausen, a young wrestler on the rise. I told him about talking to his father, creator Brian Danhausen, for years at comic cons.
Papa Dan told me about his son years ago and I followed his career. Danhausen thanked me for talking about his dad and seemed genuinely touched.
There is still one more day for me at NYCC. I’m supposed to meet John Cena and more.
