Tod Gordon Press Release on ECW, PWU, Sandman, & Friday, 6/23
http://www.prowrestlingunplugged.com

From the Desk of Tod Gordon:

“I have received hundreds of calls and e-mails regarding what the WWE's
version of ECW looked like to me last night. Actually, nothing about the
show was surprising to me in any way.  It was what it was; a third brand
extension of a stale wrestling product. If Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer
have to worry about serving all of these masters from WWE creative (you know
who I mean) to the Sci-Fi network, then any fan must realize you're not
going to get authentic crowd reactions, let alone chants on basic cable. I
assume that rather than dub over the crowd's vulgarity, it was easier to
just feed them a crappy show so they could never get truly riled up. Enjoy
it for what it is, but don't fool yourselves into thinking that it really IS
possible to catch lightning in a bottle twice, because that is not the case.

EXIT SANDMAN

There was a very specific reason why Pro Wrestling Unplugged (PWU) named
their June 23rd event "EXIT SANDMAN".  In addition to the fact that he will
be leaving the company after that night, hopefully after a crushing defeat
by JOHNNY "Angel" KASHMERE in an unforgiving steel cage match, it will be
the last opportunity for every fan in the  areas of  Philadelphia, New
Jersey, New York, Delaware, and everywhere else to give the hardcore icon
ONE FINAL VERSION OF ENTER SANDMAN as sung by all of the fans he has bled
and busted his ass for, especially in "that" Arena since 1993. I grudgingly
respect him enough to genuinely believe that he is entitled to one last
dance, as they say, as any fan who has ever been entertained by him in the
past can send him off to Corporate Land with a final and insanely wild
version of what many have termed the greatest entrance in wrestling history.
Be able to say you were there for that last entrance, and give thanks the
way only The Arena fans are capable of. ENTER LIGHT...

2 COLD SCORPIO

The man once known as 2 Gold Scorpio as he held the ECW tag and TV title at
the same time, not to mention titles in Japan that he currently holds for
NOAH, and others when he worked for that Bischoff guy, will be coming home.
If you don't know much about 2 Cold, here's a quick refresher. Knocked Road
Warrior Hawk out cold with one punch in Japan outside of the tour bus; was
the only man with enough guts to jump between Arn Anderson and Sid Viscious
during a very serious fight that included scissors in a hotel hallway while
everyone else just watched, and may be one of the few legit triple threat
athletes in the sport of professional wrestling. He can ground wrestle, he
can be a high flyer with the best of them, and he can flat out hardcore
brawl. Knowing that he has finally moved back to the states, Scorpio is
searching for some U.S. gold, and it seems that he has picked Trent Acid's
belt as the one he covets most. Trent has kept that gold while defeating
some major talent in the business as of late such as Fallen Angel
Christopher Daniels, Homicide, and most recently destroying Ultimo Dragon.
This has all the earmarks of being a classic.

YOU WANT HARDCORE?

IAN ROTTEN, CORPORAL ROBINSON, HELLAWARE, dollar bills stapled to faces,
barbed wire, baseball bats, flaming tables, suicide dives from tops of
buildings are just a few of the images I conjure up when thinking of these
guys and whoever else joins them in this PWU hardcore battle. These guys
bleed when they just think about getting in the ring with each other.
Perhaps those with front row tickets may want to bring slickers or
umbrellas, if you get my drift.

RISING SUPERSTARS

If you did not witness live PWU World Junior Heavyweight champion DEVON
MOORE when he did a shooting star press from the top of a scaffold putting
an opponent through a table on to the cement floor, then this soon to be on
everyone's top ten list is worth the price of admission alone. Add in the
ORIGINAL PITBULL, GARY WOLF, one half of the legendary Pit Bulls tag team
who is carrying a mean streak 10 miles wide with him every where he goes.
It seems that another organization gave the team name that he and his since
passed away partner carried since 1989 until this day, not even mentioning
the fact that he BROKE HIS FREAKIN' NECK and was in a halo with screws in
his head for 8 weeks, and he is feeling rightfully disrespected. The
Original, and as far as I'm concerned, the only remaining Pitbull has
requested a microphone to vent to the Arena fans on Friday, June 23rd.

THERE WILL POTENTIALLY BE MANY SURPRISES THAT NIGHT AS MANY OF MY FORMER
STARS WILL BE IN TOWN FOR A SHOW THE NEXT NIGHT.
JOIN...FRANCINE, THE QUEEN OF EXTREME AS SHE BRINGS OUT THE
SANDMAN YOU HAVE ALL COME TO LOVE OVER THE YEARS, AND LET HIM HEAR YOU SING
IT JUST ONE LAST TIME. HE DESERVES IT. Just like he deserves the beating he
will receive in the steel cage when you all finish singing.

I'm Tod Gordon...and that's MY state of the Union address.”

Experience the New Edge as Pro Wrestling Unplugged returns Friday, June 23
to the ECW Arena/New Alhambra Sports and Entertainment Center at Ritner and
Swanson Streets for “EXIT SANDMAN” in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 8 pm.

In a STEEL CAGE, you will see THE SANDMAN face off with JOHNNY “Angel”
KASHMERE.  With FRANCINE in the corner of The Sandman and TOD GORDON and AMY
LEE in Kashmere’s corner, this promises to be an insane match up.

If Sandman’s wins, the man who stole his Singapore Cane, Mr. Tod Gordon,
will be locked inside the steel cage with him for five minutes.  GENERAL
MANAGER JOHN HOUSE wants everyone to know that he’ll be right there when the
action takes place to make sure Gordon gets what’s coming to him.

2 COLD SCORPIO returns from Japan for the only challenge he felt was
prestigious enough in the U.S. to make his return to Philadelphia, as he
plans to take the PWU WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE from champion TRENT ACID.

HELLAWARE ASSASSIN and PWU is scoring the globe to find a hard hitting
replacement for BRANDON PROPHET to face the hardcore duo of CORPORAL
ROBINSON and IAN ROTTEN.

PWU WOMEN’S TITLE will be on the line as champion SUMIE SAKAI faces off
against MERCEDES MARTINEZ.

PWU TAG TEAM champions THE SAT (JOSE & JOEL MAXIMO) will defend their titles
against ALL MONEY IS LEGAL.

The diabolical DETOX will square off against powerhouse ARAMIS.
