The “Wildman” Jack Armstrong Story

A DVD Review by Scott Epstein

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?  How many years can Jack “Wildman” Armstrong stay in the picture of the squared circle?  The answer is the same in both cases; infinite.

Currently, Armstrong is the mainstay of the original Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California where he is a personal trainer and trains with many WWE and TNA superstars almost on a daily basis, not to mention the superstars of the iron game of professional and amateur bodybuilding.

The “Wildman” has a huge history in wrestling that probably baby boomers would recognize as he was a major player in the era of John Tolos, Freddie Blassie, The Captain, and just about anybody and everybody who worked the L.A. circuit on weekly Friday nights.  Armstrong also wound up not that long ago in the UWF where he teamed with non other than Cactus Jack, and his work with the incredible Mr. Foley left nothing to be desired.  What an incredible tag team.

This author knows the “Wildman” for many decades, but never knew he teamed with Mr. Mankind (pre-Mankind days) but I just adored their match on the DVD.

Also, I somewhat over the years forgot about Jack Armstrong’s mike skills.  His cutting promos are so incredible he reminds me of Superstar Billy Graham in a way and he gets over whatever he is trying to put over, with a manager or without it doesn’t matter.

The running time of this DVD is approximately two hours, and it is jam packed with feuds with, in particular, Chief Jay Strongbow Jr. and tag matches versus Strongbow and David Sammartino.  Being the major Bruno fan I am, not to mention personal friend, and knowing David since he was a youngster, it was great seeing him work in these matches.

You can read about the “Wildman” many weeks in the New York Daily News column on Fridays as the Slammer is a big fan of Jack’s and gets much of his gossip from him.

If you’d like to order this one of a kind DVD, “The Jack “Wildman” Armstrong Story”, you can e mail Scott Epstein @ [email protected] or call 516- 707-8075.  An autographed 8x10 pic comes along with it for a mere $14.99 postage included.  Also, look for the contest in Georgie’s snail mail Chatterbox coming up so you can perhaps be the winner of one.
