Brent "The Shooter" Albright interview highlights-
WWE's "Gunner Scott Theme" opens our interview with "The Shooter" Brent Albright.
-Albright goes into his "Gun for Hire" character in Ring of Honor, a "mercenary" wrestler who will injure or take out wrestlers for the right price.
-Albright enjoys the kinds of matches he wrestles for ROH, as they are different than what he's used to. Albright mentions an upcoming "Tables Are Legal" match he has with B.J. Whitmer as one example.
-Gabe Sapolsky created the "Gun for Hire" gimmick for Albright, who is happy to play it. Albright goes on to mention that he's one of the bigger guys in that company, and Sapolsky combined that size with Albright's approach and attitude towards wrestling to create the gimmick.
-According to Albright, the ROH style of wrestling is more physical compared to the WWE style, but the main difference for Albright are the fans.
-"The fans are just crazy... They get themselves worked up and if they like something, they let you know," Albright said. "And when they don't like something, they really let you know!"
-The worst chant that Albright received from the ROH fans was "PG-rated."
-Albright was a big fan of Bret Hart growing up and got into amateur wrestling in high school because of it.
-Albright credits Dr. Tom Pritchard for getting him many tryouts and dark matches for the WWE and eventually into OVW. Albright also mentions getting beat up by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin at the 2003 Survivor Series.
-Albright really enjoyed working with Jim Cornette in OVW.
-"I thought Jim Cornette was great. Me and Cornette are tight." Albright later said "As far as being a booker and a boss, I really enjoyed the way that he booked and stuff he wrote for OVW television."
-Some of Albright's trainers in OVW were Rip Rogers, Danny Davis, Lance Storm ("A terrific trainer" in Albright's opinion), Bill DeMott and Al Snow.
-"Gunner Scott" was supposed to be a protegé of Chris Benoit.
-Albright, thanks to the his two-and-a-half months on WWE TV, has more promoters willing to fly him in to a show for more money than someone who didn't have that exposure.
-"Me and C.M. Punk were talking about this the other day, cause there's some guys who got released from OVW, you know, and of course they're looking for work, too." Albright later adds "Without that television exposure, the money's not there."
-Concerning TNA, Albright says the following:
"Until they [TNA] get a two-hour timeslot, they're not in a position to be hiring people." Albright later adds "Of course, if they were to come at me with an offer, I'd take a look at it, but right now my main focus is on Ring of Honor and trying to wrestle in Japan."
Albright later adds that TNA would have to approach him with a "really really good offer" as he's enjoying what he's doing with ROH and trying to get in with Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.
-As this was aired the weekend before the Super Bowl, we end the show with the '85 Chicago Bear's "Super Bowl Shuffle."
All this, plus Brent's thoughts on his series of matches with CM Punk in OVW AND the reason he was given for his departure from the WWE can be found in the full interview.
