It all started the end of October with an email from my friend Diana Heller who saw an advertisement on a website for a "professional" person (www.QuentinsFriends.com) who was an A TYPICAL wrestling fan. My friend knew that I was an avid fan since I was 14 years old and now at 47, I still have that fire inside. So I proceeded to email the agency about me and I got an immediate response to venture into Manhatten for an audition because I sounded exactly like what they were looking for. I have been a dentist for 21 years and this fit well into their plans. They asked me if I could come into the audition with a wrestling tee shirt under my clinic gown... so I took my ROCK shirt out and travelled into NYC. At the audition they took some pictures and asked me some basic questions to make sure that I was authentic in every aspect and videotaped everything. They told me I was superb and I would hear from them within the week. I received a call on November 9th to come back for a 2nd audition but this time they wanted to send me some questions that I would be asked. Upon receiving the questions, I knew that I was in great shape so again I made the trip into NYC. This time a different person was there who videotaped the entire session that basically was answering all these questions , which lasted about 30 minutes. At the conclusion of the session she said I was excellent and that this audition process was going on in Chicago and Los Angeles also and that I should hear in about a week.
Then the magical call came 2 days before Thanksgiving to pack my bags and get ready to go to HOLLYWOOD. The production company called me and said that out of 2000 people, 20 were chosen and I was one of the lucky ones.
So on December 7th, my wife and I went to Newark Airport to fly to Hollywood, and who do we meet in the Continental Airlines Presidents Club, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani who was very gracious. This was a great start.
At LAX, we were greated by the the representative from the production company who took us directly to the studio which was where " I LOVE LUCY" had been filmed. We spent time with the wardrobe people and meeting Larry the director. After some " getting to know each other" we were taken to our hotel for our relaxation time.
The next morning at 6:15 AM we were picked up and brought to the studio. After a breakfast of basically anything on the planet, I got dressed, had makeup put on, my hair fixed and off to the shooting I went. On the set there must have been about 40 people milling around doing anything and everything. A authentic WWE RAW ring was set up with stands and seats in the background. My adrenaline was pumping to put it mildly...I was very excited.
Larry the director came over and spoke with me at length on what exactly would be taking place and what to expect. He informed me that behind a curtain there were 2 USA Network people who were miked into his ear. Larry would be asking me a bunch of questions and after each question he would get feedback and then would decide if we would have to do any retakes. We were now ready , lights, camera and ACTION.
I won't go into all the questions, but I will say this, after the first question, Larry asked me if I had ever been in front of a camera before which I had not. He told me how relaxed and natural I was and that I was doing great, it seemed the camera and me were buddies. This interview of my love of wrestling and my history of being a fan went on for almost 90 minutes. When it was over I was congratulated by all the production crew and my lovely wife who was there the entire time sitting next to another production executive who told her that I was great. The 90 minute adventure will be pieced together into a 30 second commercial to be aired during RAW.
