WrestlingFigs(P)

As everyone knows Mattel made a huge announcement at the Toy Fair that they will be taking over the WWE Figure line in 2010!

WrestlingFigs(P)

We would like to welcome Doug & Dave from Mattel to the chat room!

Mattel(P)

Thank you for having Dave and I join the chat. We are extremely excited to work on this property and we hope to deliver a line that meets all your expectations. We are here today to hear what you guys like and dont. We want to learn and start developing a relationship with the fans who are the most passionate about the brand. So fire away with questions. We want to hear your thoughts - good and bad.

swanton(Q)

Will the figures be in scale with our Jakks figures?

Mattel(A)

The short answer is YES. We intend to do many different scales of action figures with the same great level of detail that you have enjoyed with the Jakks line. Our general belief is to keep whats working and to supplement the line with fresh ideas.

jpdeadly(Q)

Any thoughts on having a Classics-or Legends line of figures?

Mattel(A)

Absolutely. As you guys know it depends on whether we can get the rights from the classic wrestlers. But being a SuperFly fan myself, I would love to continue this old school line of figs in 2010 and beyond.

jpdeadly(Q)

How often do you plan on releasing new sets of figures?

Mattel(A)

We know its important to deliver fresh, new figures at retail. We have alot of experience with our brands. We also know that Jakks offers 400-500 figures to retail each year and we want to make sure we deliver products as frequently if not better.

brm(Q)

Will your WWE figures use similar molds to your DC Universe Classics figures? It would be great if your wrestling figures retained the same level of articulation as your DC Universe Figures.

Mattel(A)

Definitely the same level of articulation as our DCU line - if not better.

TwiztidN9ne(Q)

Will your your WWE line be based more towards collectors or kids?

Mattel(A)

We want to bring more kids into the WWE franchise with fun, exciting products BUT we will not sacrifice our attention on the collector line as this is the backbone of the business

TwiztidN9ne(Q)

Will we be seeing any of the WWE divas released?

Mattel(A)

We are considering everything within the WWE world

therockcollector(Q)

Do you plan on doing Vinyl style figures

Mattel(A)

We are going to work through alot of fun new styles of figures. Vinyl could definitely an option.

gatornuggets(Q)

what will your range of accsesories be

Mattel(A)

Rings are a definite and accessories with figures are a must. I have seen alot of other backstage playsets and ppv themed accessories that are great. We want to bring all the cool environments from the events to life.

jpdeadly(Q)

How soon after the start of 2010, do you think your first line will be released?

Mattel(A)

Our rights start on January 1. We want our product line on shelf day one.

TwiztidN9ne(Q)

Is your line going to be based around the more popular wrestlers or will it include the whole roster?

Mattel(A)

The short answer is both. We want to do several different versions of the most popular wrestlers but we know how important it is to offer up the whole roster. We intend on getting ALL the wrestlers out in as many scales as possible.

arik_cannon(Q)

Will there ever be a Punjabi Prison made?

Mattel(A)

We intend to do the PPV themed rings such as Elimination Chamber, Steel Cage, etc.

Kishin_Liger(Q)

What will be the retail price per WWE action figure?

Mattel(A)

Its hard to say right now what the price of action figures will be in 2010 but we are going to stay competitive with other action figure brands and work really hard to stay true to the existing pricing of the line.

finish_the_fight(Q)

Will the Four Horsemen be working on the WWE line, or will Mattel be using Real-Scan?

Mattel(A)

Somewhere in the line the Four Horsemen will contribute. Where we see appropriate we will use scanning technology. Our ultimate goal is to get the highest level of detail / likeness on the figure using whatever techniques are most appropriate.

gatornuggets(Q)

will everyone have exclusive molds

Mattel(A)

Probably not the regular assortments but we will have a segment of figures that will have unique molds.

TheDoctor(Q)

Jakks set the bar for all toy companies with the sheer number of characters created in their ruthless aggression style. Will Mattel continue this tradition or are we going to see a case packout similar to He-Man with 4 Cenas, 4 Triple Hs and two non-main event wrestlers at one each and impossible to find?

Mattel(A)

This is a good one....is this Jeremy? Believe it or not...Jeremy actually worked on the He-Man line and he probably did the case packs. I can only say this about Jeremy because he is my friend. With the WWE line we will DEFINITELY pack out several figures per assortment. We intend on making a broad range of figures to collect and we have learned alot from retailers and WWE about managing the assortment. I think you will all be pleased with the way we will roll out freshness to retail.

TripleH13(Q)

Will Canada be forgotten about like Jakks has done to us some many times, not releasing all the figures here?

Mattel(A)

At Mattel we have our own offices in Canada and they have access to all the figures and assortments we make. This (I believe) is different than the way Jakks handles their current distribution.

hotbren96(Q)

willl u keep the divas in the new body form

Mattel(A)

To be honest...I know dont know the current diva "body form" BUT I will look into this IMMEDIATELY!!

diazjoseph12(Q)

what about more working playsets with electronic features such as entrance music and comentary from anouncers that are sitting ringside just like watching a Raw or Smackdown or ECW event on TV.

Mattel(A)

We have some VERY fun concepts that you guys are going to love.

diazjoseph12(Q)

Not to steal a quote from a famous wwe superstar but i have submitted so many questions and i know not all can be asked but the BOTTOM LINE IS CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE YOU GUYS MAKING PRODUCTS THAT WE ASK FOR AND NOT JUST PUT OUT A PRODUCT FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING A PRODUCT TO FILL A QUOTER OR A CONTRACT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT HAS BEEN DONE IN THE PAST AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHO SAID SO!!!!!!!!!!!

Mattel(A)

Great question....we will do whats right for you guys...By doing whats right for you guys we dont need to worry about satisfying the contracts.....IF YOU CAN SMELL WHAT IM COOKIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

naparo01(Q)

Are those who will be working on this line wrestling fans?

Mattel(A)

ABSOLUTELY 100% YES!!!!

T-Phunk(Q)

Multi-part question. Does Mattel plan to address their issue of distribution? Will they follow in their predecessor's footsteps and supply the amount of units per line to fill the amount of retail real estate a WWE figure line deserves? Or will we have the same problem we have with the DC lines where repaints are readily available, but first run figures are impossible to find?

Mattel(A)

We know that WWE gets around 20-24' of space at Toy R Us and we are designing a line to fill up that space. We also know that Jakks does between 400-500 figures per year and we have every intention to anniversary those numbers. On the DCU comment...we just got access to their entire catalog of superheroes. Now, for the first time ever, we can release more figures into the market than we ever could. If you are a collector...I hope you are seeing a difference in our product line this Spring. It will just keep getting better
