“ The Phenomenal” AJ Styles

Scan: I actually really like this new AJ scan. He usually does that expression after the ring announcer says his name. The only things that are odd about the headscan are the eyes. For some reason, the eyes look very large and somewhat unrealistic. Other than that, I don’t see much wrong with it.

Attire accuracy: This attire is very accurate. Toybiz nailed all of the correct colors and in the right spots. AJ has worn this one a few occasions, none too recently as he has switched back to the black tights.

Accessories: The mini table is interesting. I’m not quite sure what to do with it because it doesn’t break, nor can any one sit at it because it’s too low. I guess I could always use it for the ring bell.

Misc.: This figure is a straight up repaint of the previous AJ’s just with a new headscan and some improvements. One improvement Toybiz made was the ugly bowed legs that the series 1 AJ had. He can actually stand straight now! Also, the vest feels a lot different. I believe it’s a thinner material, it also flexes much better. Unfortunately, you’ll still need to saw off that ugly lever sticking out of his back. The last thing I noticed with this figure was that the joints are a lot tighter which is great. Personally, this is my new favorite AJ.

Overall grade: B+

Raven

Scan: Finally, a longhaired headscan for Raven. Personally, I think that the hair sculpt is perfect. I really like the beard on this figure; Toybiz did a great job capturing his beard.

Attire accuracy: I’ve seen Raven in this attire a few times, but Raven changes his attire almost every time he wrestles. I’m very happy to see a necklace on this figure; I think it adds a lot.

Accessories: The straightjacket is awesome. Not only does it fit Raven and every other figure, but also you can actually close all of the straps. Both sleeves are sewn shut at the end just like a real straightjacket!

Misc.: Once again, a straight up repaint with a new head. Unfortunately, like AJ, this figure still has that action feature. This is a great figure to replace the TNA series 1 Raven with. The tattoos look great, most of them are the same as the first figure, except the one on the left side of his back which is a little smaller.

Overall grade: B

“The Alpha Male” Monty Brown

Scan: I’m not overly impressed with the scan, but it does resemble Monty. I really enjoyed the scan from Toy Fair (scan with the open mouth). I do think that the head is a little too small for the body. I do like the hair, earrings, and the facial hair; Toybiz really did a great job on those.

Attire accuracy: Definitely 100% accurate. Toybiz nailed the detail on the tights logos as well as the black socks in between the kneepads and boots. They also added the side and back logos which look perfect.

Accessories: This was a tossup. I really can’t think of anything that Monty could have come with. Toybiz decided to get innovative and create a stand that would let Monty do his patented POOOOOOOOOUUUUNNNNNCCCCEEEEE!!! Period. The stand is pretty neat, I believe it’s from one of the old WCW figures; I’m not too sure on that.

Misc.: There really is something weird about the legs on this figure. Toybiz mounted the hip pin to the top of the crotch piece instead of the side (which they normally do). As you’ll see in the pictures, the yellowish lines point to where the joint is. This all means that instead of moving the legs straight out (like you’d do with AJ, Raven or Sabin) you have to move them to the side first. I advise anyone who gets these to be very careful and look at how the joint moves. I almost snapped the leg off because I wasn’t paying attention. Also, the neck only moves side to side, not up and down; because of the torso, Toybiz made a ‘nub’ at the top where the neck is. For some reason, you can’t move the head up or down, so it always looks like Monty is looking down on his opponents.

Overall grade: C+

Chris Sabin

Scan: I really love the scan; it captures Sabin’s facial expression perfectly. The only things missing are those giant wrinkles that he gets in his forehead. (lol)

Attire accuracy: The attire on this figure is very accurate. Toybiz did a great job on the logo as well as the boots. I wish that Toybiz used half of the ball joint on the hip to make his trunks a bit longer; right now they look like lingerie.

Accessories: The final title that we needed, the X-Division title! I love it; I cannot find a thing wrong with it! It also has two different holes in the end for 2 different sized figures. The X- Title launcher is pretty neat; it can be used as either a launcher or a stand.

Misc.: My personal favorite figure in the set. There is one odd thing about him though (other than the body making him look like he’s on steroids) and that is the joint in the wrist area. It’s not exactly at the wrist, but it’s not at the forearm, it’s in the middle. I just find that as an odd spot for the joint. I really don’t like the hands; they make him look like a karate master. Definitely the ‘must have’ figure of this set, whether it be because of Sabin or just the X-Title.

Overall grade: A
