The Tale of a Wrestling Collector

Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself my name is Austin and I’m new to the WrestlingFigs.com staff. My wrestling collecting bug started in 1985 when I purchased my first Hulk Hogan LJN Action Figure. Pro Wrestling in the 1980s was red hot, it was everywhere! I watched everything pro wrestling related religiously, from Hulk Hogan’s Rock and Wrestling cartoon show to Saturday Night’s Main Event which has become legendary classic programming fans still talk about today.

It was great seeing larger than life characters like Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Jake the Snake Roberts, and Randy Macho Man Savage wrestling in the squared circle. The promo’s and feuds were equally entertaining. And then came the Merchandise, the WWF seemingly became a licensed merchandise empire overnight. There was everything from toys, shirts, posters, video games, ice cream bars and I bought everything my Dad would allow. My younger brother was my tag team partner and we hit Toys R Us and Kay Bee Toys whenever we could and bought figures, bed sheets, posters, videos, workout kits, etc.

As I got older, I continued my collecting passion with my nephew that grew up liking wrestling in 1990s. What's funny here it is 2005 and my passion for collecting Hulk Hogan and Wrestling merchandise is as strong as it was 20 years ago! I now have over 600 different items that make up my wrestling collection from figures, videos, posters, to other novelty items. It sometimes drives my wife nuts because I'm running out of space in my den, but hey like she is one to talk, with her ever growing collection of Garfield memorabilia. Anyway I will be a regular contributor here and I will be writing more articles on wrestling merchandise past, present and future and look forward to meeting like minded fans.

Best Wishes,
