 25 Years in the Making, Backlund & Sheik to Square off at Ring Roasts

 Monroe, NJ will be the site of Ring Roasts I: A Comedic Tribute to The Iron Sheik, which has now added another twist...Sheik will now have to contend with former WWE Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund.  The wrestling/comedy merger will take place on October 10th. 

Event organizers Kayfabe Commentaries and Legends of the Ring announced today that Backlund's appearance has finally been confirmed for the landmark event--the first in the series of wrestling-themed roasts.  Backlund was first contacted months ago said Kayfabe Commentaries co-owner Sean Oliver. 

"He was actually the first name we considered," Oliver says.  "And now, some six months later, we've reached an agreement and can announce his appearance." 

Bob Backlund lost the WWE Title to the Iron Sheik in December of 1983, which was the ignition of a windfall of events leading to Hulk Hogan's title reign, and the wild success of the company.  Backlund's remarkable near-6 year reign is held in high regard by wrestling historians all over the world. 

The eternally serious Backlund is a legitimate amateur wrestler and considered a "shooter" by all in the business.  It should be most interesting to see if he will adopt a smile when taking to the podium to fire off on The Iron Sheik.
