What a shame….

The Ultimate Warrior will be invading the county tonight, showcasing his legendary skills at the Waldron High School gym.

After competing at Pittsford late last year, the Ultimate Warrior liked the crowd and atmosphere enough to come back for more and this time it’s for a good cause.

“We will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Hillsdale Hospice and I try to give back to the community in different ways through our shows when I can,” said Nitro, the one who put together the event.

The Ultimate Warrior, a one–time WWF (World Wrestling Federation) Champion said Nitro has been great to work with and he’s looking forward to another first–class show tonight.

“It’s great to be in the ring with a lot of big guys and for me it’s really all about the kids, showing them what wrestling is all about,” he said. “I like the indie scene and love the families. I also like coming places like here to meet up–and–coming wrestlers and to just enjoy the sport, instead of all the business things I’ve been around throughout my career.”

Saturday’s event will showcase the county’s first ever cage match, as Nitro takes on Dave DuPonte in a “still cage ladder” type of set–up.

The cost at the door is $10 or $20 to get a guest VIP treatment, with a ringside seat, soda, hot dog and popcorn.

The event is not just about money it is about putting on a good show and connecting with the audience, the Ultimate Warrior said.

“I like seeing the young people and talking to them about weightlifting and nutrition and how to keep your body in top shape. I also try to give them some advice just about how to live a good life and what is important from what I’ve learned,” he said.

Things have changed a lot in the wrestling scene since the 48–year old star began his career and while many critics have a negative perception of what modern day big–time wrestling stands for, Ultimate Warrior said there have been positive changes as well.

“I like that the athletic woman has really come onto the scene. It isn’t just a beauty pageant with them out there now, they are real athletes,” he said.

The Ultimate Warrior has ventured to Hillsdale County all the way from New Jersey, where he lives on the Ramapo Reservation.

He says he enjoys living there because he is so close to so many different landscapes.

“New York City is only 20 miles or so, the mountains are about 20 minutes away and the Eastern shore and ocean are within half an hour. How can you not love that?”
