None of us can believe that 10 years have already passed by, on the death of Owen Hart
On May 23, 1999, ten years ago, we lost Owen to a tragic accident.
Owen was a big jokester in the company. I remember one night the commissioner Josie Agosta and I gave Owen and Jim Neidhart a ride back to their Jetport Hotel in NJ. We were coming up to the toll taker for the Lincoln Tunnel, and Owen who was sitting in the front, said "don't pay the toll, let me talk to the toll taker". He leaned over and told the toll person, "We don't have to pay this toll, because I am Owen Hart, the King of Hearts!'
We all laughed so loud, even the toll taker was laughing and asked Owen for his autograph. Owen gave it, thinking we wouldn't have to pay, but we had to pay the toll anyway.
At that point, we laughed even harder.
But we had such a good time with him. He always wanted to make people laugh. His motto was, life is too short to be angry, be happy.
