…..

You Tube has a video of the announcement that AAA Promoter Antonio Pena passed away from a heart attack yesterday.

Rest In Peace my friend   6/15/49 - 10/5/06

I received a call late last night from my friend Frank who was Mr. Pena's interpreter.  He has worked for Antonio for a couple of years.
I met Mr. Pena through Frank, and it was a very enjoyable experience.
I remember being treated very well at the Madison Square Garden's Felt Forum, when AAA (Asestencia Asesoria Administracin) was there in 1994.  Having a backstage working press pass was rare.  Throughout my life it was somewhat difficult obtaining these passes being a woman, but Mr. Pena was just great with me.

Pena was a professional wrestler, who later became head of creative for the EMLL promotion. He was booker at the time pro wrestling got popular on television in the late 80's in Mexico City.

In 1992 Mr. Pena quit EMLL and with the help of the Televisa Network, formed the AAA promotion. The promotion set business records throughout Mexico from 1992-94, allowing wrestlers like Rey Misterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero, Octagon, La Parka, Psicosis, Juventud Guerrera, Latin Lover, Perro Aguayo Jr. and countless others to achieve their first tastes of superstardom.

Our condolences and sympathy for the Pena family, friends and fans. He helped pave the way for many Lucha Libre stars and his contributions to wrestling will never be forgotten.
