Ring of Honor issued the following :

History was made at Wrestle Kingdom 11. For the second year in a row, the Ring of Honor World Championship was defended at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s premiere event. And for the first time ever, the championship changed hands. Adam Cole defeated Kyle O’Reilly following the Last Shot to become the first-ever three-time ROH World Champion.

Just over one month after O’Reilly defeated Cole at the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom in a No Disqualification bout in the main event of Final Battle, Cole told the wrestling world that he would extract revenge. After successfully petitioning the ROH Executive Committee for a rematch following the Final Battle main event being altered just days before his defense, Cole made good on his promise and defeated his one-time tag team partner in the center of the ring.

These two stars have been linked in Ring of Honor for well over six years. Was their classic at Wrestle Kingdom 11 the final chapter of this history rivalry? Or will O’Reilly look to extract revenge once more time? One thing is for certain: in Atlanta, the two will stand on opposite sides of the ring at least one more time when the ROH World Champion teams with the “American Nightmare” Cody to take on two former ROH World Champions in O’Reilly and Jay Lethal. Saturday Night at Center Stage has become that much more interesting.
