Plans has been concluded by the management team of the African Wrestling Organization, (AWO) a pro-wrestling body solely set up to see to the growth, development and upliftment of the mat sport in Africa, the second continent with most people and land area after Asia which has more population and land, to stage a pro-wrestling tournament in Ghana, a West African country.

Having being in the game of professional wrestling and having experienced the limitations in moving the game forward to the next level in Africa, a group of African wrestlers from Nigeria, Republic of Mali, Benin Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon met and agreed on the  23rd day of April 2001 under the auspices of Jimmy Palm (The African Dream), to form an organization of professional wrestlers that will cater for the welfare of the African wrestlers and lead to the sustenance of the profession in Africa.

Ghana as a nation will witness a pro-wrestling tournament for the first time in the history of the continent. The management of the African Wrestling Organization has worked out plans to host a wrestling carnival in Accra and Kumasi on the 26th and 30th December respectively and the people in Ghana are very much ready to witness this pro-wrestling shows that has been tagged: POWER TUSSLE 2007 which will parade African talents like Jimmy Palm (the African Dream), Tya Mupepe of DRC,  Scorpion King of Mali, Power Vic of Ghana, De Big Shield, Kingstone, De Lion Man from the Jungle with the tag team stars like  De Grippers (Mr. Sharpman and Stone Codder) and  The Golden Twins of DRC.

Sesan Olukoya, an African pro-wrestling researcher, activist, columnist and publisher with Jimmy Palm (The African Dream) and the brain behibd the tournament  were in Ghana from December 10th to 15th 2007 for the second time,  to meet with the officials of the Regional Sports Council in Accra, Ghana and after much explanation and details of the proposed championship, the Mr. S.S. Atuahene, the Regional Sports Director in Accra requested for a letter from AWO seeking for approval to host the show in Accra. The director also requested for the constitution of the organization which was given to him before he wrote to AWO officially granting the group approval to host the show.

So far so good, the African wrestling Organization (AWO) who has presented shows like Millennium Rampage, African Power Jam 2001, Grand Slam 2003,  Afro Power Tour 2003, Boarder Clash 2004, Power Tussle 2004,  Afro Wrestling Fiesta 2005, Clash of the Titans and so on is fully set to turn Ghana upside down and and wet the nation ablaze with razzle-dazzle shows. The talents that have been paraded to slug it out in Ghana have been raking that the residents of Accra and Kumasi in Ghana will really enjoy themselves during the yuletide season with a professional wrestling tournament of this magnitude.

We are proud of the exploits of the African Wrestling Organization (AWO) who have been working extra hard to see to the growth of the sport in the continent and outside the Ghana pro-wrestling tournament, plans are also on to host a show in Bamako, Mali in February 2008 as well as in Democratic Republic of Congo by the middle of the year 2008.  The African wrestling is set to witness lots of development in the  years ahead.

Amos Shelley, the Country Director of AWO in Ghana who has been up and  doing and who has promised the team of organization’s  wrestlers coming to Ghana during the Christmas season that they will be hosted very well and will be home away from home. Amos who is well experienced and who is also in charge of the Ghana Wrestling Entertainment (GWE) has gone extra mile to see to it that through the exploits and concern of the African Wrestling Organization wrestling as a sport has come to stay in Ghana. Power Vic who has his real name Victor Akpan, a wrestler whose father is a Nigerian and whose mother hails from Ghana is also set prove himself and represent the former Gold Coast nation during the wrestling tournament in Ghana and according to him,  he is fully prepared to slug it out with any body that come his way during the Power Tussle 2007 tournament.

Jimmy Palm, the chairman of the AWO who is very much optimistic and excited about this timely show to be hosted in Ghana, for the first time has promised to take the mat sport to the next level in the African continent and has also vowed that come what may, the grunt and  groan game will meet up with the international standard of the sport. He would also want the pro-wrestling organizations at the international levels to come to the assistant of the body, all in an effort to promote African wrestling to what is obtainable in other parts of the world by inviting the group for international shows and also by having joint shows as well.

So far so good, we wish the African Wrestling Organization all the best of luck even as the organization is going extra mile to revolutionize the mat sport in Africa and for more details and information, the organization could be contacted by sending an E-mail to : [email protected] and you can also call Jimmy Palm, the head of the organization on telephone number: +2347032380398.
