In June of 2008, we first spoke with a man who once was "Angry" and once was the "Funkster" and once was "Kwee-Wee", whatever that was. In '09, we invited the incredible Alan Funk to be our first LIVE guest as we returned to the LIVE airways at http://www.WrestlingEpicenter.com. And, he delivered another fun interview that I hope you'll all enjoy!
In this interview, Funk says the best thing for wrestling is to be able to go back in time and save WCW and even says how bad the indy scene has become. Plus, a ton of fun stories and shots at modern wrestling that you'll have to hear to believe! Plus, Alan is now accepting bookings for personal appearances and to wrestle through Wrestle Bookings, http://www.wrestlebookings.com. Show him some love!
We return to the LIVE airways on Wednesday night, March 25 at 10 p.m. Eastern with our former weekly co-host the "Queen of Extreme" Francine! Francine will be on live and we will be accepting live callers. So, if you've ever wanted to talk to Francine, this may be the opportunity of a lifetime! ALAN FUNK:
- Alan Funk calls into the show.and tells us about some shady dealings on the independent scene. He says that one time Dusty Rhodes didn't pay him for a show once, and says unfortunately that thing happens quite a bit. Fortunately, he has never been hurt real bad and tries to ask for payment up front first.
- His tanning salon went out of business since our last interview with him. Right now he is involved with an MMA Fight School. He has no intention of actually fighting in MMA, but loves that other wrestlers are getting into MMA and doing well (Brock & Lashley)
- He has not gotten a call from TNA to come in even though Russo talked to him about it. He also met with WWE, but is doubtful of getting in there because of all the releases they've made. TNA has been letting guys go and he's heard they aren't doing well financially.
- Funk says that ever since WCW went away, it seems like wrestling has gotten worse year by year. He says that if TNA folds, it would only get worse. With only WWE, there is obviously not many options for guys.
- When speaking of the Indy scene, Funk says that some promotions are better than others and when speaking of places to stay and hotels, he's actually stayed at promoters houses in the past. NWA: Anarchy is one of his favorites to be involved with.
- Right now he's alternating between his personalities, but says that Angry Alan Funk gets over the best. His "Funkster" gimmick he feels that it wouldn't last extremely long if it did get over big and would need to do something with Hogan to make it work. Funk says the gimmick also restricts him athletically.
- Since his major injury, he says he isn't entirely unwilling to take certain moves as long as he really trusts the guy he's working with.
- He has not seen "The Wrestler" He does say that the contradiction in the movie is that most veterans don't do the crazy stuff ("unless you're Terry Funk")
- When talking about Terry, Alan tells the story of how he met him and how shocked he was when it turned out when they had the same last name. He says he still gets that from other people.
- He's been trying to get back over to work in Japan and really wants to work there again.
- When asked about the media coverage of the Chris Benoit tragedy, Funk says that they definitely didn't do the proper research. He also says that if they want to see what wrestling is like then they should learn to train & take bumps and see how easy it is.
- We then ask him about his relationship with the man that gave him his major injury, Sonny Siaki, and says that they get along well. He says that he was upset when the injury happened, and he says that Siaki never really apologized, but he's told him that he doesn't hate him and everything is cool.
- On the 1st interview he mentioned Luger ditching him on that lunch, and he says that since then he has gotten into touch with Lex and he said that he "forgot" about the lunch.
