AWA LEGENDS REUNION IN MILWAUKEE

Dave Herro a class act..

I'm on my way home from the Great Lakes Championhship Wrestling-sponsored AWA Legends Reunon in Milwaukee. With the horror stories about some recent wrestling autograph shows, I have to report that promoter Dave Herro did a fantastic job organizing the event, and everyone advertised to appear did so -- with the exception of Bobby Heenan who canceled several days ago because he is having emergency jaw replacement surgery (with bone from his hip). But Dave Herro did publicize Heenan's no-show well in advance and offered refunds to those who pre-purchased Heenan autograph tickets.
A couple amusing anecdotes: (1) I gave Verne Gagne my copy of the 2006 WWE
Hall of Fame Induction program to sign, and Verne was fascinated by it, asking me: "Where did you  get this?" I told him everyone attending the WWE HOF Induction at the Rosemont Theater got one when they entered the auditorium. It seems the WWE  did not have enough copies to give one to at least one member of their HOF "Class of 2006."
(2) When I met Nick Bockwinkel, knowing his fondness for using fancy words in his promos and interviews, I told him it was an honor for me to meet the most
"perspicacious" champion in the history of the business. Nick looked at me utterly perplexed  and had no idea that the word means: insightful, discerning -- or as I explained in the context of pro wrestling, it could also mean cunning.  Imagine that: an old mark like me used a word that stumped Nick Bockwinkel!
Others in attendance were Greg Gagne, Jim Brunzell. Mad Dog Vachon,  The Destroyer/Dr. X. and Baron Von Raschke. All were very gracious during the 4-hour event.
